Overview

The Simrad 000-15647-001 is a wired handset and external speaker kit that adds a second operating station to compatible black box VHF radio systems. It is commonly installed where you want full VHF control and clear audio away from the main handset, like a flybridge, lower helm, or nav station.

The HS100 handset gives you a dot-matrix display with day and night modes, a dimmable backlight, and an alphanumeric keypad for quick channel work, scanning, and favorites. Features like handset station naming and 60-second audio rewind help on busy waterways, and both the handset and the included SP100 speaker carry an IPx7 rating for wet helm environments.

Compatibility and fit

This kit is used with black box VHF systems that support HS100 wired handsets and SP100 wired speakers, including Simrad RS100 and RS100-B installations. It is an accessory station and does not function as a standalone VHF radio.

On an expandable system, additional stations are typically used to cover separate helm positions and to place a speaker where it can be heard in a pilothouse, cockpit, or bridge without relying on a single location for all audio.

Installation and setup

Mount the handset where it can be reached while underway and route the cable through a protected path with drip loops at console entries. For best results, keep runs away from ignition wiring and other high-current conductors, and seal any bulkhead or deck penetrations that could see spray.

After wiring, the speaker is assigned within the system so the handset at that station controls volume the way you expect. Volume offset settings help when one speaker is mounted farther from the operator than another.

Electrical and system integration

The host VHF system operates from a 12 V DC negative-ground supply with an operating voltage range of +10.8 V to +15.6 V (nominal +13.6 V). On supported systems, external speaker outputs are rated 5 W at 4 ohms, with a 4 ohm speaker recommended at 8 W or higher.

If your helm lighting is managed through the boat network, handset backlighting can be grouped with NMEA 2000 backlight groups so compatible displays and the VHF dim together at night.

Use on board

This setup is a good match for boats with two helms, a pilothouse and cockpit, or any layout where the crew needs VHF control and clear audio in more than one place. It also suits fishing and offshore runs where the cockpit needs to hear traffic while the helm stays controlled and quiet.

Maintenance and care

Rinse off salt spray with fresh water after heavy use and keep the microphone and speaker openings clear of sunscreen, dust, and washdown residue. Periodically check cable entries and fasteners at mounting points so vibration does not loosen connections over time.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
