Overview
The Simrad 000-14479-001 is an IS42J digital engine gauge with a built-in J1939 to NMEA 2000 gateway, letting you bring J1939 diesel engine data onto your NMEA 2000 network so it can be viewed on the gauge and on compatible Simrad displays elsewhere on the boat.
It supports up to two J1939 engines and uses a 4.1-inch color display (320 x 240) with optical bonding to the front glass to help prevent internal fogging. The unit runs from 12 V DC (10 to 15 V DC) with a recommended 3 A fuse, and connects to NMEA 2000 via a Micro-C port with a 1 LEN network load.
Key features
- Displays engine status and performance for up to two J1939 diesel engines from one instrument.
- Built-in J1939 to NMEA 2000 gateway shares engine data to other gauges and multifunction displays on the network.
- 4.1-inch color screen (320 x 240) with 1200 nits brightness for helms that see direct sun.
- Optically bonded display helps prevent condensation and fogging inside the screen.
- Waterproof silicon keys stay usable with wet hands or gloves.
- IPx7 water ingress rating for marine installations.
- 12 V DC supply (10 to 15 V DC), max power 2.16 W (160 mA at 13.5 V DC), recommended fuse 3 A.
What’s included
- Display unit
- Removable bezel
- Sun cover
- J1939 and power cable
- NMEA 2000 kit (Micro-C drop cable and Micro-C T-connector)
- Mounting kit (mounting template, screws, and screw jig)
Installation and setup
This is a flush-mount instrument with a compact footprint of 118 x 115 x 37 mm (W x H x D). Use the included mounting template and hardware, and plan access behind the panel for the connectors and cable routing.
On the network side, connect the Micro-C to your NMEA 2000 backbone through a T-connector and drop cable. On the engine side, the unit provides two J1939 CAN connections (primary and secondary) for one or two engines. Each engine typically needs an engine-specific J1939 adapter harness between the engine’s CAN bus and the IS42J cable.
Power is supplied separately from the boat’s 12 V DC system. The unit turns on when the Power ON wire is energized, which can be wired to constant supply or to an ignition or helm switch depending on how you want the gauge to wake up.
Compatibility and system integration
The IS42J is a good match for boats with J1939 diesel engines that are already running NMEA 2000, or are adding a backbone so engine information is available at multiple stations. Typical engine data shown includes speed, load, pressures, temperatures, and engine alerts including diagnostic trouble codes.
If you plan to use fuel-related pages, make sure the network includes the required fuel data storage support. For setup work and maintenance, the USB port supports use of a USB mass storage device for tasks such as software updates and transferring system settings.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt off with fresh water, then wipe the screen with a micro-fiber or soft cotton cloth without pressing hard. Avoid abrasives, solvents, and high pressure washing. Fit the sun cover when the instrument is not in use to keep the display protected at the dock.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.
Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.
Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.
Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.
Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
