Overview
The Vimar IDEA Series is a range of slave dimmers for flush-mounted lighting control where a compatible MASTER dimmer is already part of the circuit. Across the range, these units are offered for 120V 60Hz and 230V 50Hz systems and handle 40 to 500 W incandescent lamps, 40 to 300 VA electronic transformers, 10 to 200 W CFL lamps, and 3 to 200 W LED lamps.
This is a secondary control, not a stand-alone dimmer, so it belongs in installations that already use the matching MASTER dimmer on the same AC circuit. The housing is IP40 rated, built in thermoplastic with a matt finish, and sized at 24.8 x 50.1 x 51 mm for compact flush mounting in protected interior locations.
For boat interiors, this type of dimmer makes sense in cabins, saloons, and other dry accommodation spaces with onboard AC lighting. It is not the right choice for exposed areas, wet lockers, or open deck locations, and these versions are not for Isoset enclosures.
Key features
- Slave dimmer format for multi-point lighting control with a compatible MASTER dimmer already in the circuit
- Available in 120V 60Hz and 230V 50Hz versions to match the vessel or building AC system
- Supports incandescent, electronic transformer, CFL, and LED loads within the stated watt and VA ranges
- Flush-mounted body with click-in mounting for a clean installation in interior panels and switch positions
- IP40 thermoplastic housing with matt finish for sheltered indoor spaces
- Compact 24.8 x 50.1 x 51 mm size that helps when panel depth is limited
Variants
This range is offered in four configurations that change by finish color and operating voltage.
The listed versions keep the same load ranges, flush-mounted form factor, IP40 protection, and body dimensions. The electrical setup changes between 120V 60Hz and 230V 50Hz models, so the slave dimmer needs to match the AC system and the compatible MASTER dimmer already in use.
- VM16604.120: Grey finish, 120V power. This version fits 120V 60Hz circuits and keeps a grey front for IDEA installations that already use grey devices and trim.
- VM16604.120.B: White finish, 120V power. This keeps the same 120V 60Hz electrical setup and changes the visible front to white.
- VM16604: Grey finish, 230V power. This version is for 230V 50Hz circuits and keeps the grey IDEA look at the switch position.
- VM16604.B: White finish, 230V power. This keeps the 230V 50Hz setup and changes the visible finish to white.
Electrical and system integration
These dimmers are for AC lighting circuits only. They are not suitable for 12V or 24V DC lighting systems, so they are a better match for boats with onboard shore-power style AC distribution or for interior spaces in residential and commercial installations.
Before ordering, check the circuit voltage and frequency, the lamp type, and the total connected load on the dimmed circuit. The slave unit also needs to match the control scheme already built around the compatible MASTER dimmer.
Installation and fit
The body is made for flush mounting and uses click-in fixing, which suits finished switch panels where a neat front face matters. With IP40 protection, it belongs in dry, protected positions rather than places that see washdowns, salt spray, or direct weather.
This is a practical fit for interior refits where the existing switch bank already uses Vimar IDEA devices and the system needs an extra dimming control point without changing the overall look of the panel.
Use on board
This product is a sensible match for cabins, saloons, and other accommodation spaces on vessels that use AC lighting loads and want dimming from more than one position. It is less suited to engine room spaces, open cockpits, or any mounting point where moisture, spray, or enclosure type falls outside an IP40 indoor installation.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.
Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.
Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.
Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.
Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
