Overview
The Vimar IDEA Series is a flush-mounted dimmer for 230 V~ 50 Hz lighting circuits that use 40 to 300 VA capacitive-response electronic transformers. It uses MOSFET control and can be operated from the built-in control point or from peripheral NO push buttons, which is useful when a cabin or passageway light needs dimming from more than one location.
The front is visible in the dark, which helps when lights are turned down for night running or overnight use on board. This unit is flush-mounted and has a 54.10 mm device depth, so it should be matched to the available box depth and the existing IDEA installation layout before ordering.
This dimmer is a good match for boats that already use Vimar IDEA devices in the accommodation areas and need 230V AC light control rather than 12V or 24V DC switching. It fits naturally into interior spaces such as cabins, saloons, and companionway access points where controlled light levels matter.
Key features
- 230 V~ 50 Hz dimmer for loads from 40 to 300 VA with capacitive-response electronic transformers
- MOSFET dimming control for regulated adjustment of compatible transformer-fed lighting
- Works from the built-in control point or from peripheral NO push buttons
- Visible-in-dark front makes the control easier to find when ambient light is low
- Flush-mounted body with 54.10 mm device depth for IDEA series installations
- Thermoplastic construction with a matte untreated finish
- Available in grey or white to match surrounding IDEA devices and trim
Variants
This dimmer is offered in two color configurations within the IDEA range.
The electrical function stays the same across both versions, including 230 V~ 50 Hz supply, 40 to 300 VA load range, MOSFET control, and operation from built-in or peripheral NO push buttons. The change between variants is the front color.
- VM16602: Grey. This version suits darker switch panels and interior trims that already use the grey IDEA finish.
- VM16602.B: White. This version keeps the same dimming function with a lighter face for white IDEA plates and lighter interior panels.
Installation and fit
This unit is intended for flush installation in an IDEA-compatible setup. Before fitting it on board, confirm that the circuit is 230 V~ 50 Hz, that the connected load uses compatible capacitive-response electronic transformers, and that the enclosure depth can accept a 54.10 mm device.
On refit projects, this is most useful where the vessel already has Vimar IDEA wiring accessories and the goal is to add dimming without changing the surrounding look. For marine use, it is best placed in interior locations where the control is protected from direct spray and washdown.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
