Overview

The Vimar VMV55105 is an IP55-rated surface-mount junction box sized 120 x 80 x 50 mm for protecting cable joins and terminals where spray, dust, and general deck-area grime can be a problem. It uses six cable entries with trimmable step membranes to suit 20 mm or 25 mm conduit or tubing, so you can route runs cleanly without leaving oversized openings.

On board, this is the kind of box you mount in a cockpit locker, under a hardtop, inside a lazarette, or anywhere you need a tidy, serviceable connection point that is not exposed to immersion. It is rated for 0 to 60 C operating temperatures and has a rated insulation voltage of 450 V, which fits typical low-voltage DC and AC wiring practices when installed to local electrical codes.

IP55 helps with spray and washdowns, but it is not a sealed potting box for underwater or bilge submersion. Place it where it stays out of standing water, and keep cable runs supported so vibration does not work connections loose over time.

Key features
  • IP55 degree of protection for use in damp, dusty, and splash-prone areas on a boat
  • 120 x 80 x 50 mm enclosure size for compact, surface-mounted installs
  • Six inlets with trimmable step membranes for 20 mm or 25 mm conduit or tubing
  • Blind cover with screwed attachment for secure closure during vibration and routine access
  • Plastic housing in grey (RAL 7035) with stainless steel cover screws
  • Rated insulation voltage 450 V and working temperature range 0 to 60 C
Installation and setup

Mount the box to a solid, flat surface on the bulkhead or overhead where you can still reach it for future inspection. Bring conduits or tubes into the selected entries, trim the step membranes only as much as needed, and leave a drip loop on cables where practical so water does not track straight into the enclosure.

For a cleaner result in lockers and wet areas, route and secure cables first, then make terminations inside the box with enough slack for service. After closing, confirm the cover is evenly seated and the screws are snug so the sealing surfaces stay consistent.

Compatibility and fit

This junction box is set up for 20 mm and 25 mm conduit or tubing through its step-membrane entries. If your installation uses different sizes, confirm your conduit system and cable routing plan before cutting any entries.

The rectangular footprint suits tight runs behind panels, inside deck lockers, and along wiring trunks where a compact surface box is easier to service than an in-line splice.

Materials and corrosion resistance

The body is plastic, which avoids paint blistering and metal corrosion in damp compartments. The cover uses stainless steel screws, which helps in a saltwater environment, but it is still worth rinsing salt residue from hardware during routine washdowns and keeping dissimilar metals separated at the mounting points.

Use cases on board

This box makes sense for consolidating lighting branches, deck accessory feeds, locker circuits, or equipment terminations where you want a defined junction point instead of hidden splices. It is also a practical option when refitting wiring and you need a neat place to transition from conduit to a local device run.

It is a good match for owners and installers who want service access later, especially on boats that see regular spray, vibration, and periodic washdowns.

Maintenance and care

Open the box occasionally to check for moisture, loose terminations, and cable strain, especially after heavy weather or a season of vibration. Replace any entry membrane that has been cut too large or torn, and keep cable support points close enough that movement is not transferred into the enclosure.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
