Overview

The Vimar VMV55104 is an IP55-rated surface-mount junction box for protecting wiring connections in areas exposed to spray, washdowns, and dust. It’s a practical choice when you need a sealed enclosure for cable splices on bulkheads, inside lockers, under consoles, or in other onboard spaces where wiring needs to stay contained and protected.

The housing is plastic in grey RAL 7035, with stainless steel screws, and it uses a blind cover secured by screws. Cable entry is handled through a trimmable step membrane so you can open the pass-through to match the cable route without leaving an oversized opening.

Overall dimensions are 100 mm length, 128 mm width, and 56 mm depth. The unit is rated Ui 450 V and is specified for 0°C to 60°C operation.

Installation and setup

Mount the box to a solid, flat surface so the cover seats evenly and the seal can do its job. For boats, that usually means a bulkhead, console interior, cockpit locker wall, or a sheltered area in the engine room where it won’t be submerged.

Use the step membrane to create cable entries that match your cable size and routing. Keep entries tidy and avoid forcing oversized cables through undersized openings, since that can compromise the fit around the pass-through.

Compatibility and fit

This junction box is a good match when you need a compact surface box for joining circuits like deck accessories, lighting feeds, pumps, or sensors, and you want added protection from spray and dust. It’s also useful during refits when you’re cleaning up older splices and want them contained in a closed enclosure rather than left in open loom or taped joints.

IP55 helps in wet environments, but it is not meant for full immersion. Choose a mounting spot that stays above standing water and where the cover can be accessed later for inspection or troubleshooting.
