Overview
The Attwood Marine Pulsar 5040 Series is a deck-mount navigation sidelight range for 12 VDC boat electrical systems, with separate red port and green starboard versions for vessels up to 39.4 ft. or 12 m. Each light gives 1 nautical mile visibility with a 112.5 degree sidelight arc, making it suitable for replacing or adding low-profile side navigation lights on runabouts, fishing boats, small cruisers, and other recreational boats within that length range.
The round black housing mounts directly to a deck, gunwale, or superstructure where the beam can shine straight ahead without obstruction. The housing is impact-resistant, UV-stable polycarbonate, and the lens encloses the bulb and socket for a splash-resistant seal. The light uses a #906 lamp and connects to the boat with 7 inch wire leads.
Key features
- 1 nautical mile visibility for boats up to 39.4 ft. or 12 m.
- Separate red port and green starboard versions support a proper sidelight pair installation.
- 12 VDC operation matches common small-boat and recreational marine electrical systems.
- 112.5 degree visibility arc for each sidelight.
- Impact-resistant, UV-stable polycarbonate housing for exposed deck locations.
- Twist and bayonet lock secures the lens and cover to the base.
- Cover and lens hide the installation fasteners and help seal water out of the lamp area and hull opening.
- Deck installation uses two #10 fasteners with 7 inch wire leads for connection.
- Compact round footprint measures 2-3/8 inches in diameter by 1-7/16 inches high.
- Meets USCG CFR 183.810 and ABYC A-16 requirements for this class of navigation light.
Variants
This product is offered in two lens color configurations for port and starboard side navigation lighting.
The lens color is the configuration difference between the two variants. The deck-mount housing style, 12 VDC electrical setup, 1 nautical mile visibility rating, and compact round footprint remain consistent across the Pulsar 5040 sidelight range.
- 5040R7: Red lens. This is the port-side sidelight, used on the left side of the boat when facing forward.
- 5040G7: Green lens. This is the starboard-side sidelight, used on the right side of the boat when facing forward.
Installation and fit
Mount the sidelights on a smooth surface where the red and green beams are not blocked by rails, trolling motor hardware, bow pulpits, canvas, or deck gear. Before drilling, the lights should be positioned so they shine straight ahead and stay within 5 degrees of horizontal when the boat is floating normally.
For a paired sidelight installation, the red and green lights should be mounted at equal distance from the bow on their respective sides. The base uses a deck hole for the wire lead path, and waterproof crimp connectors with suitable marine sealant help protect the hull or cabin space below the mounting point.
Use cases on board
The Pulsar 5040 Series is a practical match for small boats that need deck-mounted port and starboard navigation lights rather than a combined bow light. It fits well on open bows, side decks, and low superstructure areas where a round sidelight housing can sit clear of obstructions while keeping the installation neat.
Maintenance and care
Keep the lens clean and free from salt film, wax buildup, and deck grime so the light pattern remains visible. Check the twist-lock lens cover, wiring connections, and mounting seal during routine washdowns or seasonal service, especially on boats that see saltwater spray, vibration, or frequent trailering.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team.
