Overview
The Vimar VM14398 is a 1-module LED auxiliary emergency lamp for escape-route lighting on 100-240 V AC systems, with max system power of 1.0 W. It uses an individual rechargeable lithium-ion battery and a non-exchangeable LED light source, and it is rated IP40 with Class II double insulation.
This unit installs either surface-mounted or recessed, which makes it a practical fit for interior bulkheads, companionway areas, and passageways where you want a small marker light that remains available during a loss of main power. Overall size is 22.3 mm wide, 45.7 mm high/depth, and 49.0 mm long, with a built-in depth of 35.2 mm for recessed installs.
It also supports a remote switch connection, so it can be used as a courtesy light or step marker when controlled by an external 1-way switch.
Key features
- 100-240 V AC input with 1.0 W max system power
- Individual rechargeable lithium-ion battery with fixed, non-exchangeable LED light source
- Escape-route lighting function in a 1-module format for Vimar PLANA device positions
- Surface mounting or recessed mounting, depending on the panel and box arrangement
- Remote switch connection support for courtesy light or step-marker control
- IP40 protection and Class II double insulation for interior electrical safety
- Screw connection terminals for straightforward wiring
Installation and setup
Plan the location first with real on-board sightlines in mind: low on a bulkhead by steps, along a cabin passage, or near the route from berths to the companionway. For recessed mounting, confirm there is enough clearance behind the panel for the built-in depth and that cabling can be routed without pinching.
Because this device is for mains voltage, treat it like any other AC accessory on a vessel. Use appropriate marine-rated conductors, provide proper circuit protection at the distribution panel, and keep terminations tight and strain-relieved to handle vibration underway.
Compatibility and fit
This lamp is intended for 100-240 V AC electrical systems, which commonly means shore-power or inverter-fed circuits on board. It is not a 12 V or 24 V DC fixture, so verify the supply type at the mounting location before ordering.
If you want step or courtesy lighting control, confirm your installation includes an external 1-way switch and wiring path for the remote switch connection.
Use notes for marine interiors
The IP40 rating is suited to protected interior spaces where the unit will not see washdowns or direct spray. On boats that get heavy condensation, place it where it can stay dry and avoid mounting positions that drip from hatches or deck hardware.
This is a good match for cruising sailboats, motor yachts, and working boats with an AC distribution system where clear egress paths matter in cabins and companionways.
Maintenance and care
Include a quick function check in your normal safety routine so you know the light and battery are behaving as expected. Clean the face and surrounding panel with a dry or slightly damp cloth, and avoid solvents or aggressive cleaners that can haze plastics over time.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.
Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.
Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.
Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
