Overview
The Vimar VM14296 is a USA-standard duplex GFCI socket outlet for 125 V AC, 60 Hz circuits, rated 15 A, sized for Vimar Plana 3-module installations. It gives you two receptacles in one position, with built-in ground-fault protection that trips quickly when leakage current is detected, which is exactly what you want around sinks, heads, galleys, and other onboard areas where moisture is part of life.
This unit is IP20 and intended for protected interior mounting. The front face measures 73 mm wide by 107 mm high, and it needs about 41.1 mm of depth behind the plate, so it is worth checking box depth and cable bend room before you commit. It mounts flush with a built-in mounting frame and uses screw terminals for the connections.
Key features
- Duplex American-standard receptacle with GFCI protection for 125 V AC, 60 Hz systems, rated 15 A.
- Class A GFCI function with TEST and RESET buttons and a trip indicator light on the front.
- Line and load terminals support downstream protection when the circuit is wired to feed additional receptacles.
- Color-coded screw terminals (green ground, silver neutral, brass hot) for straightforward terminations.
- Flush-mount format with built-in mounting frame, completed with a 3-module Plana cover plate.
- Thermoplastic body that is halogen-free, with a glossy white finish (RAL 9003).
- IP20 rating for dry, protected locations; for spray-prone areas, plan on a compatible protective cover or enclosure.
Installation and setup
This outlet is meant for a standard flush installation behind a 3-module Plana plate. Wiring is done at the rear screw terminals, and the device supports both a simple feed (line only) and a feed-through configuration (line and load) when you need to protect additional receptacles further down the circuit. Use copper or copper-clad conductors, and keep the circuit de-energized while working.
On a boat, it is usually installed on a 120 V shore-power branch circuit (nominal 125 V AC). Make sure the breaker size, wire gauge, and the rest of the AC distribution hardware match the circuit you are tying into, and keep the outlet in a location where it will not be hit by washdowns.
Compatibility and fit
VM14296 is part of the Vimar Plana modular system and occupies a 3-module position. Plan the install around a compatible 3-module mounting box and the matching Plana cover plate. The unit includes a label space on the face, which is handy for marking galley outlets, head outlets, or other circuits you want crew and guests to identify quickly.
Use on board
This is a good match for boats that want a familiar USA-style GFCI outlet in the interior without resorting to mismatched residential plates. It fits well in cabins, salons, and workspaces where you want ground-fault protection close to water use, but you still have a controlled environment away from direct spray.
Maintenance and checks
Use the built-in TEST and RESET buttons to verify operation regularly. If the device will not reset when wired correctly and power is present, or if it trips repeatedly without a clear cause, treat that as a service item and replace it. Keep the face clean and dry, and avoid harsh cleaners that can leave residue around the buttons.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
