Overview

The Vimar VM10005 is a 1-pole (1P) 2-way rocker switch module rated 16 AX at 250 V~ for controlling a single circuit from two locations on board. It is commonly used for lighting where you want control at both ends of a space, like the companionway and the main cabin, or the cabin entry and a berth area, using the typical two-switch 2-way wiring.

This module is rated up to 200 W for self-ballasted lamps and follows IEC 60669-1:2017, which helps when you are switching modern lamp loads and want a switch built for real-world lighting behavior. The body measures 22.00 mm wide by 36.00 mm high, with a 36.50 mm overall depth and a 23.50 mm built-in depth, so it is straightforward to check fit behind panels before you commit to a full refit.

The housing is halogen-free thermoplastic with an untreated matt finish in beige (similar to RAL 9001). It is a good match when you want an interior switch that blends into light-colored panels without looking glossy or showing fingerprints as easily.

Key features
  • 2-way switching for control of one load from two locations using standard 2-way wiring
  • Electrical rating: 16 AX, 250 V~
  • Max 200 W for self-ballasted lamps (IEC 60669-1:2017)
  • Module size: 22.00 mm (W) x 36.00 mm (H); depth 36.50 mm; built-in depth 23.50 mm
  • Rocker/button operating style for familiar feel in cabins and saloons
  • Halogen-free thermoplastic body with an untreated matt surface
  • Beige color similar to RAL 9001 for consistent interior finishes
Compatibility and fit

This is a modular device intended to be used within the correct Vimar modular system hardware. Match it with the appropriate Vimar mounting frame and cover plate for your installation, and confirm you have the clearance for the 23.50 mm built-in depth behind the mounting point, especially in thin liners or fiberglass panels.

Because 2-way switching depends on the wiring layout, it is worth confirming you are replacing the right type of switch in the circuit. A 2-way switch is used as part of a pair to control one circuit from two points, not as a simple on-off in a single location.

Installation and wiring

Plan the install like any onboard electrical work: isolate power at the source, verify the circuit is dead, and make terminations that stay tight under vibration. If you are running wiring through furniture or bulkheads, protect conductors from chafe and keep connections accessible for future service.

The VM10005 is rated for 250 V~ applications, so it fits naturally into AC lighting circuits on boats that have shore-power systems and AC distribution. If you intend to switch DC loads, verify the switching method and load type are appropriate for your system before installation.

Use on board

This switch suits refits where you want consistent interior switching across cabins, heads, and passageways, especially when you already have Vimar modular plates and want the new switch to match the look and feel. It also makes sense for new installs where you want multi-location control of a light without adding electronic controllers.

Maintenance and care

The untreated matt surface is easy to keep looking clean with a soft, lightly damp cloth. Avoid aggressive solvents and abrasive pads, which can mark a matt finish and leave shiny spots over time.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
