Overview

The Vimar VM08001 is a 1-pole, 1-way switch module for Vimar 8000 Series installations, rated 16 AX at 250 V~ for standard on-off control from a single location.

It is commonly used on boats for interior circuits where you want a clean modular look, such as cabin lighting panels, heads, or helm-side switch banks that sit behind a cover plate. The switch is also rated for self-ballasted lamps up to 200 W, which matters when you are switching modern electronic loads rather than a simple resistive lamp.

With an IP40 rating, it belongs in protected interior spaces, not in places that see direct spray or washdowns. The beige matte finish is similar to RAL 9001, which helps match classic yacht interiors and existing 8000 Series trims.

Key features
  • 1-pole, 1-way on-off switching for control from one location
  • 16 AX, 250 V~ rating for AC circuits that include electronic or self-ballasted loads
  • Supports self-ballasted lamps up to 200 W
  • Flush-mounted modular format sized as a single 8000 Series module
  • Snap-in fastening that suits multi-module frames and cover plates
  • Screwed terminals for solid connections where vibration is a factor
  • IP40 protection for interior, sheltered mounting locations
Installation and fit

This is a single-module device with a face size that suits 8000 Series grids and plates. Check clearance behind the mounting surface, especially in thin bulkheads or instrument panels, since wiring bend radius can be the limiting factor more than the module itself.

For a neat finish on board, mount it where the front is protected from knocks and moisture, and where the rear of the switch stays dry and ventilated. If you are replacing an older switch, confirm the module system and frame style match the 8000 Series layout before pulling the old wiring.

Electrical and system notes

This switch is rated for 250 V~ AC circuits. If your boat is primarily 12V or 24V DC for lighting, use a DC-rated switch for those loads rather than assuming an AC rating will translate.

Because it is a 1-pole switch, it opens a single conductor. For marine AC systems, switching practices depend on the circuit and local standards, so wire it in a way that matches your vessel’s electrical scheme and protection devices.

Use on board

This module is a good match for refits and new builds that already use Vimar 8000 Series devices and want consistent switching across cabins, salon, and service areas. It also makes sense when you are standardizing switch feel and appearance across a panel with mixed functions.

Maintenance and care

Wipe the front with a lightly damp cloth and avoid solvents that can haze matte plastics. If the switch is installed in a high-vibration area, it is worth rechecking terminal tightness during routine electrical inspections with power isolated.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
