Overview

The Perko 0648DP0CHR is a pair of LED horizontal mount side lights for power-driven vessels under 20 meters, with red port and green starboard navigation lighting in a chrome finish. It is made for 12 volt systems and draws 2.5 watts at 0.21 amps, giving a low-current LED replacement for older incandescent sidelights.

Each light uses a chrome-plated zinc alloy top with a black polymer base and a self-contained LED module. The lights are 2-mile certified for USCG use and meet common navigation light standards used in the USA and European markets, including ABYC C-5, ABYC A-16, EN/ISO 19009:2015, COLREGS, RCD 2013/53/EU, and USCG 33 CFR requirements.

The housing size is 3-3/8 inches long by 2-1/2 inches wide by 1-1/2 inches high. The footprint perimeter matches Perko 0627 and 0628 incandescent lights, although the wiring hole and mounting screw locations may vary, so the mounting surface should be checked before installation.

Key features
  • Pair of horizontal mount LED sidelights with red port and green starboard visibility for navigation use.
  • Rated for power-driven vessels under 20 meters, equal to 65.6 feet.
  • 2-mile USCG certification for required sidelight visibility on applicable boats.
  • 12 volt LED operation with 2.5 watt power use and 0.21 amp draw.
  • Chrome-plated zinc alloy top paired with a black polymer base for a classic exterior look.
  • Self-contained LED modules reduce current draw compared with traditional incandescent sidelights.
  • Compact housing measures 3-3/8 inches by 2-1/2 inches by 1-1/2 inches.
  • Uses #6 mounting screws for attachment to the horizontal mounting surface.
  • Footprint perimeter matches Perko 0627 and 0628 incandescent lights, with mounting holes and wire routing to be verified during retrofit work.
Installation and fit

These sidelights are meant for horizontal mounting where the port and starboard arcs remain clear and unobstructed. They suit bow, foredeck, or forward cabin-top locations where separate red and green lights are preferred instead of a single bi-color fitting.

For replacement jobs, compare the existing Perko 0627 or 0628 footprint with the new housing before drilling or sealing. The perimeter is intended to line up, but screw placement and wiring access may not be identical, especially on older boats or surfaces that have been repaired or refinished.

Electrical and navigation compliance

This is a 12 volt LED sidelight set, so it should be connected to a properly protected navigation light circuit rather than a 24 volt supply. The low 0.21 amp draw is useful on small cruisers, center consoles, fishing boats, and runabouts where overnight battery load matters.

Because these are navigation lights, placement and wiring should preserve the required red and green orientation, visibility angle, and switching from the helm. Bedding compound and clean wire terminations are important in exposed areas where spray, vibration, and UV exposure are part of normal use.

Use cases on board

This light pair is a good match for owners replacing older horizontal sidelights while keeping a polished chrome look on the boat. It works well for coastal cruising, evening returns to the dock, fishing before sunrise, and general night operation on boats that fall within the under-20-meter rating.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
