Overview
The Jabsco HotShot HD4 is a heavy duty washdown pump range for marine deck cleaning, fish box rinsing, anchor washdowns, and general cleanup where a steady on-demand water supply matters. The pump delivers 4 GPM open flow, equivalent to 15.1 LPM, with a 60 PSI pressure switch cut-off for strong washdown pressure without needing a separate manual switch at the nozzle.
This HotShot HD4 range uses a 4 chamber diaphragm pump with quick connect ports, a TENV permanent magnet motor, thermal motor protection, and a noise dampening baseplate. It is self-priming up to 8 ft dry prime and can run dry without damage, which helps in real boat use when the inlet briefly draws air or a tank runs low.
Configurations cover 12 VDC and 24 VDC systems, with one 12 VDC kit option that includes a 25 ft hose coil. The IPX6 rating suits exposed washdown locations where spray and wash water are part of normal use.
Key features
- 4 GPM open flow and 60 PSI pressure switch cut-off for deck, cockpit, anchor, and fishing cleanup jobs.
- Self-priming up to 8 ft dry prime, useful when the pump is mounted above the water source or away from the pickup point.
- Run-dry capable diaphragm design helps protect the pump during short dry-running conditions.
- Integrated pressure switch starts and stops the pump as the trigger nozzle is opened or closed.
- Quick connect ports make hose fitting and service access easier in tight onboard spaces.
- IPX6 rating for locations exposed to heavy spray and routine washdowns.
- Wetted components include glass-filled or fiber reinforced polypropylene, TPV diaphragm material, and EPDM valves and seals.
- Includes straight hose barb fittings, garden hose thread adapter, 40 mesh strainer, quick connect trigger nozzle, and trigger adapters.
Variants
This product is offered in three configurations. The differences are the DC voltage and whether the hose coil is included with the pump package.
The pump performance is consistent across the listed configurations at 4 GPM open flow and 60 PSI cut-off. Electrical sizing changes by voltage, with the 12 VDC versions using a 9 VDC to 13.6 VDC range and the 24 VDC version using an 18 VDC to 27.2 VDC range.
- Q401J-118N-3A: 12 VDC, hose coil not included. This version fits 12 V boat electrical systems and works well when the vessel already has a washdown hose or when the hose setup will be selected separately.
- Q401J-118N-4A: 12 VDC, 25 ft hose coil included. This version suits 12 V systems where a complete pump and hose package is preferred for a new or refreshed washdown station.
- Q402J-118N-3A: 24 VDC, hose coil not included. This version matches 24 V boat electrical systems and leaves hose selection open for the installation layout.
Installation and setup
Plan the installation around a clean water feed, a protected electrical run, and service access to the strainer and port clips. The quick connect port layout helps during installation, but the pump still needs extra space around the fittings, wiring, and hoses so nothing is strained once the boat is underway.
The included 40 mesh strainer should be installed on the inlet side to help keep debris out of the pump. Keep hose runs as short and direct as practical, and mount the pump where it is protected from standing water while still close enough to the washdown pickup and outlet to reduce pressure loss.
Electrical and system integration
The 12 VDC configurations have a voltage range of 9 VDC to 13.6 VDC, a maximum current draw of 11.5 amps at 60 PSI, and require a 15 amp fuse that is not included. The 24 VDC configuration has a voltage range of 18 VDC to 27.2 VDC, a maximum current draw of 6 amps at 60 PSI, and requires a 10 amp fuse that is not included.
Each version uses 12 in stripped wire leads with 14 AWG wire. The pump is built for intermittent duty, so it is a strong fit for washdown tasks rather than continuous transfer work.
Materials and corrosion resistance
The pump uses a polypropylene upper housing, cast aluminum lower housing, EPDM check valves and seals, a TPV diaphragm, stainless steel pump head fasteners, and a motor casing made with cast aluminum and coated steel. This material mix is appropriate for the wet, high-vibration environment around decks, cockpits, lockers, and utility spaces on board.
Use cases on board
This pump range is a practical match for fishing boats, center consoles, cruisers, and workboats that need pressurized water for rinsing decks, cleaning gear, clearing mud from anchor tackle, or washing down the cockpit after a day on the water. The 12 VDC versions suit many smaller and mid-size boats, while the 24 VDC version fits vessels built around a 24 V DC electrical system.
