Overview
The Jabsco 17800-2000 is a 12V portable oil changer that pulls used oil through the dipstick tube and collects it in a 14 quart reservoir. It uses a bronze flexible impeller pump with a reversible motor and integral reversing switch, so the same unit can extract oil from the engine and then empty the container when the job is done.
This setup works well on boats where the sump drain is hard to reach and where keeping oil changes above the bilge makes the job cleaner. The unit comes with a 4 ft suction hose, a 40 in Teflon dipstick probe, and a female garden hose thread fitting for engines that use a threaded dipstick connection.
The container measures 13-1/2 in in diameter and 13-5/8 in high, with an 8 ft power cord and alligator clips for direct connection to a 12V battery. For many routine oil changes, that gives enough reach to place the bucket where it stays steady while you work.
Key features
- 12V DC portable oil changer with a reversible motor and built-in reversing switch
- Bronze pump body with an oil-resistant nitrile impeller and lip seal
- 14 quart (13.2 L) reservoir for contained oil changes on board
- 4 ft (1.2 m) neoprene suction hose with 40 in (1 m) Teflon dipstick probe
- Female garden hose thread fitting for engines with a threaded dipstick connection
- 8 ft (2.4 m) power cord with alligator clips for direct battery connection
- 7 amp draw with a 10 amp fuse requirement
- Reservoir can be emptied by reversing flow or by using the retractable pour spout
Compatibility and fit
This unit is for 12V DC systems only. It is a practical match for boats with inboard engines or generators that can be serviced through the dipstick tube, especially where access under the engine is limited.
The included probe and hose arrangement also suits installations that use a male garden hose thread at the dipstick fitting. Before buying, it is worth checking that your engine layout gives clear access to the dipstick tube and that the probe length matches the depth needed to reach the oil pan.
Electrical and setup
Connection is straightforward: clamp the red and black leads to the battery, fit either the dipstick probe or the garden hose adaptor, and run the pump in the required direction. The motor draws 7 amps and uses a 10 amp fuse, which matters when you are setting up a dedicated service lead or replacing the fuse holder protection.
For faster extraction, the oil should be warmed first. The working guidance is 140°F to 185°F, and a normal 6 quart pump-out takes less than 3 minutes. That makes it useful for routine service on cruising boats, fishing boats, and other setups where moving a drain pan around the engine space is awkward.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
