Overview

The Hella Marine 002984601 is a masthead combination navigation lamp that gives you a tri-color sailing light (red, green, and white sectors) plus a 360 degree all-round white anchor light in one unit. It is a 12 V fixture with 2 nautical miles visibility, and it measures about 200 mm tall by 88 mm wide for a clean masthead install.

This is an incandescent light that uses a BAY15d base bulb (25 W). The black housing and lens are plastic that stands up to sun exposure and the bumps that happen during rig work, and the light is non-magnetic for use near the compass.

With an IP55 rating, it suits typical topside conditions like rain, spray, and routine washdowns, as long as the wiring and seals are kept tidy during installation and service.

Key features
  • Two light functions in one masthead fixture: tri-color navigation light and 360 degree all-round white anchor light
  • 2 NM visibility rating with 12 V DC operation
  • Uses an incandescent BAY15d bulb (25 W)
  • IP55 protection rating for weather exposure and spray
  • Non-magnetic construction for use on sailboats where compass interference matters
  • UV-resistant plastic housing and lens that handle sun exposure and everyday impacts
  • Horizontal surface mount with cable entry through the base using a rubber grommet
  • Bayonet-lock access for straightforward bulb replacement
  • Meets IMO COLREG 72, BSH, USCG, ABYC A-16, CE, RINA, and Maritime NZ requirements
What’s included
  • Tri-color/all-round navigation lamp assembly
  • 12 V / 25 W BAY15d bulb
Compatibility and fit

This style of combined masthead light is commonly used on sailing yachts up to 20 m (65.6 ft) where a single tri-color lantern at the top of the mast is permitted under the navigation rules. If your boat is set up for separate bow and stern lights, confirm your required light arrangement before switching to a masthead tri-color.

Because it is a 12 V fixture, it is a match for standard 12 V house systems. For 24 V boats, this specific 12 V configuration is not the right fit unless your masthead light circuit is stepped down to 12 V.

Installation and wiring

Mount it on a level, horizontal surface at the masthead so the light sectors stay aligned correctly. The cable feeds through the base plate, and the rubber grommet helps protect the wiring as it passes through the mast cap.

Plan the wiring so your switch panel can select the tri-color sailing light or the all-round white anchor light as separate functions. Use tinned marine wire and make splices where they are protected, since mast wiring sees constant vibration and moisture over time.

Maintenance and bulb replacement

The bayonet-lock housing makes servicing straightforward when it is time to replace the bulb. When you open the fixture, keep the sealing surfaces clean and re-seat everything carefully before closing it back up, and wipe salt film off the lens so the light stays crisp at night.

Use on board

This is a practical choice for sailboats that do night passages and also anchor out, where you want one masthead fixture to cover both under-sail navigation lighting and an all-round white anchor light. It also works well as a like-for-like replacement when you already have a masthead mount and 12 V wiring set up for this type of combined light.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
