Overview

The Garmin 010-00705-63 is a 2.0 L per minute (0.53 gpm) hydraulic pump kit for Garmin autopilot systems, used with a Reactor 40 setup to move hydraulic fluid to your steering cylinder. The pump assembly measures 31.75 x 11.43 x 10.16 cm (12.5 x 4.5 x 4 in.) and weighs 3.2 kg (7.05 lb), which helps when you are checking clearance in a console, steering locker, or under-helm space.

On a boat, this pump is plumbed into the port, starboard, and return lines so the autopilot can steer by pushing fluid to either side of the cylinder. It needs a dry mounting location protected from spray and weather, with room to reach the hydraulic fittings and service points.

Key features
  • 2.0 L/min (0.53 gpm) hydraulic output for steering-cylinder control in a Reactor 40 autopilot installation
  • ORB hydraulic ports and threaded cable collars on the pump assembly
  • Mounts horizontally when possible; vertical mounting is acceptable with the pump head connectors facing up
  • Placement guidance: keep the pump within 0.5 m (19 in.) of the ECU; the pump-to-ECU cables cannot be extended
  • Three built-in shutoff valves isolate the pump for troubleshooting and service without disconnecting hydraulic lines
  • Hydraulic hose guidance: -4 (6 mm / 1/4 in.) ID or larger hose with a minimum 1000 psi rating
  • Operating temperature range: -10 to 60 C (14 to 140 F)
Compatibility and fit

This pump is intended for use only with Garmin autopilot systems. It must not be installed on a steering system with an unvented reservoir, and it is not for use on a system with an unbalanced cylinder. If you are unsure whether your reservoir is vented, the vent is typically in the filler cap of the highest helm.

Plan your plumbing around port, starboard, and return connections at the pump manifold. For ORB and other O-ring style fittings, thread sealant is not used. For fittings without an O-ring, use a liquid thread sealant intended for hydraulic service. Thread seal tape should not be used in this hydraulic system.

Installation and setup

Mount the pump where you can keep hose runs sensible and still access the fittings. A common layout uses T-connectors in the port and starboard lines between the helm and the cylinder, plus a return line connection to the center pump fitting. It is best to place the pump near the cylinder so no more than 3 m (10 ft.) of hose connects the pump to the cylinder.

The pump connects to the ECU using the two included cables, which plug into the ECU ports marked DRIVE and FEEDBACK. Hydraulic hoses, tees, and any additional fittings beyond the included adapters are not part of this kit, so confirm your steering hose and fitting plan before you start.

Materials and corrosion resistance

The manifold is aluminum alloy, and the pump body is zinc alloy with a hardened steel piston/rotor. In salt air, a light coat of marine corrosion inhibitor on the pump body and manifold helps limit surface corrosion, and reapplying it once a year is a sensible routine for boats that see regular washdowns and humid lockers.

On-board behavior

In standby, the pump allows a gradual bleed-down of pressure. On boats with uneven rudder loads, that can show up as a slow drift to one side without continuous manual corrections. A check valve accessory can be added to block the bleed-down path through the autopilot pump during manual steering.

This kit is a good match when you are building out a Reactor 40 hydraulic autopilot system on a boat that already has hydraulic steering and you want a 2.0 L/min pump option with service-friendly shutoff valves.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
