Overview
The Perko 1659 is a tower mount white all-round LED navigation light for boats that need a compact 360 degree white light on a tower, arch, or T-top. It runs on 12V DC, has an overall height of 6-3/8 inches, and is 2-mile USCG certified for use as an all-round navigation light.
The light uses a self-contained LED module with a polymer top and base, a clear frosted lens, and LED optics that adjust based on pole mount angles. It is built around a tower mount base with a 3/4 inch aluminum tube and uses #8 mounting screws.
Key features
- White all-round LED light with 360 degree visibility for tower, arch, and T-top installations.
- 12V DC operation with low draw at 1.28 watts and 0.10 amps.
- 2-mile USCG certified and built to meet major LED navigation light standards including ABYC C-5, ABYC A-16, EN/ISO 19009:2015, 1972 COLREGS, and RCD 2013/53/EU.
- Polymer top and base with a clear frosted lens for a clean light appearance.
- Self-contained LED module reduces the need for bulb changes compared with incandescent pole lights.
- LED optics adjust based on pole mount angles, which helps with proper light orientation on angled tower structures.
- 3/4 inch aluminum tube and tower mount base suit installations where a short raised all-round light is needed above the hardtop or frame.
Variants
This Perko 1659 light is offered in two finish configurations for matching different tower and arch layouts.
Both variants share the same tower mount white all-round LED light format, 12V DC rating, 6-3/8 inch overall height, 3/4 inch aluminum tube, tower mount base, and USCG 2nm certification.
- 1659DP0ALU: Aluminum finish. This finish works well with aluminum towers, arches, and T-tops where the light should visually blend with lighter metal hardware.
- 1659DP0BLK: Black finish. This finish suits black tower frames, dark hardtop hardware, and installations where a darker light housing is preferred.
Installation and fit
This light is intended for fixed tower or arch mounting rather than a removable plug-in pole setup. Check that the mounting location gives the white all-round light an unobstructed view around the boat and places it high enough to clear hardtop edges, antennas, rod holders, and canvas.
The #8 screw requirement and 3/4 inch aluminum tube are important fit details when replacing an existing light or planning a new installation. On aluminum or fiberglass structures, use a proper backing surface and route the wiring where it is protected from chafe, washdowns, and movement from vibration.
Electrical and compliance
The 12V DC rating makes this light a match for common small-boat and center-console electrical systems. Its 0.10 amp draw is useful on boats that spend time anchored or running at night, where navigation lighting may stay on for extended periods.
The 2-mile certification and listed navigation light standards help confirm that this is not just a courtesy or accent light. It is meant for proper white all-round navigation light use when installed in the correct location and wired into the vessel’s navigation light circuit.
Use on board
This light is a practical fit for center consoles, fishing boats, runabouts, and other vessels with towers, arches, or T-tops that need a short all-round LED light above the structure. It is especially useful where a traditional pole light would be awkward, exposed, or visually out of place on the tower frame.
