Variants
The Jabsco 50890 Waste Pump is offered in two electrical configurations for different onboard DC systems.
The voltage, maximum current, and fuse size vary between the two versions. The pump format, 1-1/2 in (38 mm) ports, self-priming capability, and waste pump application remain consistent across the 50890 range.
- 50890-1000: 12V, 8A maximum current, 10A maximum fuse size. This version matches boats with a 12V DC house or sanitation circuit.
- 50890-1100: 24V, 2.5A maximum current, 5A maximum fuse size. This version matches vessels with a 24V DC electrical system.
Installation and setup
The pump should be plumbed with 1-1/2 in (38 mm) ID non-collapsible waste hose on both inlet and outlet connections. Suction connections need to be airtight and routed without sharp bends or restrictions, since leaks or collapsed hose can reduce priming and flow.
The ports can be rotated to suit the hose route, and the pump head can be repositioned for the available mounting space. When mounted vertically, the motor should sit above the pump head. Rubber grommets are used to reduce vibration transfer into the mounting surface.
Electrical and safety notes
The pump motor is for intermittent duty and should not be run continuously for more than 30 minutes. The positive lead should be protected with the correct rated fuse or circuit breaker close to the power source, using the fuse size that matches the selected 12V or 24V version.
Electrical connections should be made in dry locations whenever possible. In damp or humid areas, sealed connections help limit corrosion, which is especially important on boats used in saltwater.
Use on board
This pump suits boats that need a dedicated waste transfer pump for holding tank evacuation without adding a separate pre-filter. It is also a sensible replacement choice when the existing installation already uses 1-1/2 in sanitation hose and the electrical system matches one of the available voltage options.
It is not for petrol, petroleum products, or liquids with a flash point below 100°F (37.8°C). If the discharge thru-hull sits below the waterline, the discharge hose requires a vented loop at least 8 in (20 cm) above the waterline at all angles of heel or trim.
