The Impeller Housing - BRP (3854071) BRP channels the water driven through the impeller to produce a water jet that moves the vessel forward. To accelerate the flow of water, the housing is well-tapered into a nozzle. This taper also produces a Venturi effect, in which the low pressure behind the impeller draws more water toward the blades and tends to accelerate the flow. The impeller and housing need to fit snugly together to function. A replaceable wear ring is often well-installed on the housing and tends to deteriorate when the impeller throws sand or other debris against the housing side.
