Overview
The Raymarine R28170 is a replacement short arm wind vane assembly for Raymarine wired masthead wind transducer installations. It measures apparent wind speed and direction from the masthead, giving the instrument system the wind data sailors use for trim, course decisions, and true wind calculations when paired with the right boat speed and heading inputs.
This is the short arm version, with the 300 mm format used on cruising sailboats and powerboats where a compact masthead sensor is preferred. It is made for Raymarine wind instrument systems such as i60 Wind, iTC-5, ST60+ and ST60 series installations.
This masthead-only assembly is not supplied with a wind transducer cable. It suits replacement work where the existing cable is still serviceable and has enough slack for the connector to be removed and refitted at the base.
Key features
- Replacement short arm wind vane assembly for Raymarine wired masthead wind transducer systems.
- 300 mm short arm format for masthead wind sensing on cruising sailboats and powerboats.
- Measures apparent wind speed and direction for use by compatible Raymarine instrument displays and interfaces.
- Works with Raymarine i60 Wind, iTC-5, ST60+ and ST60 series instrument installations.
- Supplied without the masthead cable, making it suited to service jobs where the existing installed cable is being reused.
- Includes the base, protective cap, retaining clip, cable washer, cable nut, and cable nut spanner needed for the replacement assembly.
Installation and fit
Installation is at the masthead, so the condition of the existing cable and base matters before the job begins. When reusing the installed cable, there must be enough slack to remove and refit the connector to the base without straining the cable or leaving the connection exposed.
The protective cap should be fitted whenever the vane arm is removed for service or replacement. It helps protect the cable connector area from water and dust while the arm is off the base.
Compatibility and system use
This assembly is for Raymarine wired wind systems, not a stand-alone wireless sensor. It is a good match for owners refreshing an existing Raymarine masthead wind setup where the cable run up the mast is still in good condition and the goal is to restore wind speed and direction readings without replacing the full cable assembly.
For boats that need a new cable as part of the repair, the complete short arm or long arm wind transducer assembly is usually the better route because the replacement wind vane assembly itself does not include the cable.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
