Overview
The Garmin 010-10617-02 is a 6-foot (1.8 m) USB extension cable for select Garmin GXM receivers and GPS units. It gives you extra reach when the USB connection needs to land somewhere practical, like inside a helm electronics compartment instead of right at the device or receiver.
On boats, this is handy when a GXM 30 or GXM 40 receiver is mounted away from the console, or when the USB lead needs to pass through a rigging tube or cable chase and still leave enough slack for service access. It is an extension only, so it does not change connectors or convert between marine networks.
Since USB connections are not intended for exposed wet locations, plan the run so both ends live in a dry, protected space, and check that the USB connector style on your equipment matches what you are extending.
Key features
- 6-foot extension adds reach for routing through a console, electronics box, or cable chase without relocating your device.
- Supports common onboard tasks that use USB connections, including device servicing, updates, and data transfer where applicable.
- Compatible with GXM 30, GXM 40, GPSMAP 3xx series (including 376C, 378, 396), GPSMAP 4xx series (including 478, 496), GPSMAP 696, zumo 550, aera 796, StreetPilot 2730, StreetPilot 7200, and StreetPilot 7500.
- Helps reduce tugging at the port by letting you secure the cable run and leave a small service loop at the connection point.
What’s included
- USB extension cable, 6 ft (1.8 m)
Compatibility and fit
This cable is intended for the Garmin models listed above. If your installation includes a different GPSMAP generation or a different GXM receiver, confirm the unit is in the supported device list and that the USB connector style matches before routing the cable behind panels.
The 6-foot length is often enough to move the connection from an exposed mounting position to a protected electronics area, but measure your actual route length, including bends, drip loops, and any service slack you want at both ends.
Installation and routing
Route the cable away from high-heat areas and moving parts, and support it along the run so vibration does not work the connectors loose over time. In a helm console, leaving a little slack at the connection point makes future access easier without putting strain on the device port.
If the cable passes through a bulkhead or hard panel, use a proper pass-through or grommet and keep the connection in a dry area. A simple drip loop below the connector can help prevent water from tracking down the cable into the port.
Use cases on board
This extension is a good match when you need more flexibility in where a compatible Garmin GPS unit or GXM receiver sits versus where the USB connection can realistically be accessed. It is also useful for boats that are updated and serviced at the dock, where reaching the USB connection without removing electronics saves time and reduces wear on mounting hardware.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.
Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.
Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.
Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.
Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
