Water pump and cooling system gaskets are mechanical seals that keep the water pump and cooling system from leaking. They are made of high-temperature, compression-resistant rubber and are designed to fit tightly between the components' mating surfaces and fill the space between surface imperfections. Gaskets are selected based on their properties and ability to withstand various conditions, such as mining and deep-sea operations, chemical tolerance, alkaline acids, high temperatures, and pressure. To work effectively and plug any gaps, seal sufficiently the gasket to provide a total barrier that will allow a pressure-tightened plug and lock the contents of the container within.
