Overview

The Garmin 010-02779-20 is a 25 kW GMR xHD3 open-array radar pedestal that runs on 10 to 32 V DC.

This listing is for the pedestal only. It must be paired with a compatible GMR xHD3 antenna array to complete the open-array radar assembly.

The pedestal is rated IPX6 for water exposure and mounts where it can get a clear sweep, such as on a hardtop, radar arch, mast platform, or tower. Instrumented maximum range for the 25 kW xHD3 system is 96 nm with a 20 m minimum range, and the antenna can operate at 24 rpm or 48 rpm depending on the settings in your Garmin display.

Key features
  • 25 kW GMR xHD3 pedestal only; requires a separate GMR xHD3 open-array antenna
  • Input power: 10 to 32 V DC for 12 V or 24 V systems
  • IPX6 water rating for exposed mounting locations
  • Instrumented maximum range: 96 nm; minimum range: 20 m (66 ft.)
  • Antenna rotation speeds: 24 rpm and 48 rpm
  • Connects into Garmin BlueNet networking and can be used on Garmin Marine Network installations with the appropriate adapter
  • Includes 15 m (49 ft. 3 in.) power and 15 m (49 ft. 3 in.) network cable runs for tower, arch, or mast routing
What’s included
  • GMR xHD3 25 kW radar pedestal
  • Power cable, 15 m (49 ft. 3 in.)
  • Garmin BlueNet network cable, 15 m (49 ft. 3 in.)
Compatibility and fit

This pedestal is part of the GMR xHD3 open-array family, where the antenna size is selected during setup so the system knows which array is installed. If you are replacing an existing unit, confirm your antenna and network type match the xHD3 series and that your chartplotter supports radar over Garmin BlueNet or Garmin Marine Network.

Plan for the pedestal weight and mounting surface strength, especially on towers and masts where vibration is higher. Keep the radar at least 90 cm (35 7/16 in.) from a standard magnetic compass, and 80 cm (31 1/2 in.) from steering and emergency compasses.

Electrical and network integration

Power is brought to the pedestal through the radar power cable, and the system uses an in-line 15 A fuse when connected directly to ship’s power. Some installations use a voltage converter between the battery and the radar; when that setup is used, the battery-side protection is 30 A in addition to the in-line fuse on the radar cable.

Networking is handled through Garmin BlueNet cabling to a compatible chartplotter or switch. If your boat is built around Garmin Marine Network components, an adapter is typically used between the BlueNet radar connection and the Marine Network side.

A water ground connection is required. Bond the pedestal to a water ground using 12 AWG (3.31 mm²) copper wire and seal the connections for a boat environment.

Installation and setup

Mount the pedestal on a surface that stays flat and is parallel to the vessel’s waterline, with enough height and clearance to minimize blind spots from masts, spreaders, exhaust stacks, and deck lights. Route cables with drip loops and strain relief, and leave room to service connectors without forcing bends in the cable jacket.

After the radar is on the network, radar control and tuning are handled from your Garmin chartplotter. During initial setup you will be prompted to specify the installed antenna size, and you can set the front-of-boat offset so radar bearings line up with the bow.

Use on board

This pedestal fits boats that rely on long-range open-array radar for offshore runs, coastal cruising, or commercial-style navigation where target definition matters at distance. It also makes sense as a direct replacement when the existing xHD3 pedestal has failed but the antenna and cabling path are already in place.

Maintenance and care

Rinse salt spray off the pedestal housing and cable connections with fresh water as part of normal washdowns. Periodically check mounting fasteners for tightness, inspect cable jackets for chafe where they pass through hardtops or towers, and confirm connectors stay dry and fully seated after heavy weather.

Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.

Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.

If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
