Overview
The Attwood Marine 1167231 is a 12-volt bi-color stowaway navigation light with an integrated task light, built on a 10 inch straight pole with a 3-pin locking-collar connection. It gives 225 degree red and green sidelight coverage with 1 nautical mile visibility for boats up to 12 m, and the raised pole helps keep the light visible above bow gear such as a trolling motor or anchor.
This is a practical bow light for boats that need navigation lighting underway and a small work light at the foredeck after dark. The task light is separately switched, and the pole removes from the base for stowage when you want the bow clear for fishing, anchoring, or trailering.
The housing uses impact-resistant, UV-stable polycarbonate, so it suits open-boat installations where sun and spray are part of normal use. The 10 inch straight pole keeps the setup compact while still lifting the light head above nearby hardware.
Key features
- 10 inch straight plug-in pole raises the light head above common bow obstructions.
- Bi-color red and green sidelight with 225 degree coverage and 1 nautical mile visibility for boats up to 12 m.
- Separate task light with a rear push-on switch for lighting the foredeck, tackle area, or lines after dark.
- 3-pin locking-collar pole fits Attwood 910R3, 901V3, 910T3, and 2530 bases when the locking collar is removed where applicable.
- 12-volt construction with an impact-resistant, UV-stable polycarbonate housing.
- Navigation lamp uses a 9-watt wedge-base replacement bulb; the task light lamp is not serviceable.
Installation and setup
This light needs a standard 3-pin base wired for separate navigation-light and task-light functions. The combination light circuit requires a 1-amp fuse, and the task light requires its own 1-amp fuse on a separate circuit. On a replacement job, it is worth checking the base pattern before ordering, because this 3-pin version is not the same as Attwood's 2-pin bi-color poles.
For best visibility, mount the base on an unobstructed smooth surface as far forward as practical on the gunwale, deck, or superstructure. Once installed, the locking collar secures the pole in the base, and the pole can be removed again for storage when it is not needed.
Compatibility and fit
This model is a pole-mounted bow sidelight, not a flush-mount or deck-mount combination light. It suits boats that already use, or are being rigged for, an Attwood-style 3-pin plug-in base and need a removable bow light with extra height. That can be useful on fishing layouts where a trolling motor, anchor bracket, or other hardware sits forward and can block a low-profile light.
Because the pole is straight and 10 inches long, it works where you want a compact raised light rather than a longer pole or an angled configuration. Buyers replacing an older 5095-series pole should match both the 3-pin connection and the straight 10 inch form factor.
Use on board
This light makes sense on pleasure boats that run before sunrise, stay out after sunset, or spend time setting up gear at the bow in low light. It is especially useful on fishing boats and smaller cruisers where one removable fixture can cover legal navigation lighting underway and close-range task lighting when you are handling gear at the foredeck.
Maintenance and care
When the pole is stowed, keep the base cover closed to protect the contacts and help keep water out of the socket. Clean the lens and housing with mild soap and warm water, and avoid solvents or abrasives that can mark the plastic. The navigation bulb can be replaced with a 9-watt wedge-base lamp, while the task light lamp is not serviceable.
