Overview
The Vimar Idea 16013 is a 1P 16 AX 250 V~ reversing rocker switch that mounts flush in a Vimar IDEA modular panel and is commonly used for multi-way switching circuits on board. It has an IP40 body intended for protected interior locations, and the mechanism fits a single module with a device size of 24.80 mm wide by 50.10 mm high, 39.30 mm deep, with a 25.50 mm built-in depth.
In practical terms, this is the type of switch used when a light or circuit is controlled from more than one spot, such as cabin and companionway lighting or stairway-style switching layouts inside the boat. Some versions add a luminescent indicator on the rocker to make the switch easier to locate in low light without using a powered pilot lamp.
Key features
- 1-module IDEA mechanism for flush mounting with snap-in fastening
- 16 AX, 250 V~ rating, with a stated limit of 200 W for self-ballasted lamps (IEC 60669-1:2017)
- IP40 protection level for installation behind interior plates and panels
- Screwed terminals for secure conductor clamping in vibrating environments
- Halogen-free thermoplastic body with a matt finish
- Built-in depth 25.50 mm; device depth 39.30 mm for planning clearance behind the panel
- Grey and white color options, plus versions with a luminescent indicator
- Label space on the mechanism for circuit identification
Variants
This switch is offered in two colors and in versions with or without a luminescent indicator.
Across the range, the form factor and electrical rating stay the same, while the visible finish and the presence of the luminescent marker are what change between configurations.
- VM16013 (Color Gray, Luminescent Indicator No). A straightforward rocker for matching grey IDEA plates where a night-locating marker is not needed.
- VM16013.B (Color White, Luminescent Indicator No). The same mechanism in white for a lighter panel finish.
- VM16013.F (Color Gray, Luminescent Indicator Yes). Adds a luminescent marker on the rocker to help you find the switch in low light.
- VM16013.F.B (Color White, Luminescent Indicator Yes). White finish with the same luminescent marker for night-time switch location.
Installation and setup
The mechanism is made for flush mounting and snaps into a compatible IDEA modular support system, then sits behind the matching cover plate. Plan for the rear clearance using the built-in depth and overall device depth, especially on helm switch panels where wiring bundles and busbars can crowd the space behind the fascia.
With an IP40 rating, it belongs in dry, protected locations such as inside the cabin, at the nav station, or in enclosed panels, not on an exposed deck where washdowns or spray can reach the back of the switch.
Electrical and load notes
This is a 250 V~ switch rated at 16 AX, a rating that matters when switching lighting loads with inrush. If you are using it on a boat for DC circuits, confirm the switching rating is appropriate for the specific DC load and current, since DC loads can stress contacts differently than AC.
Use on board
This is a good match for boats already built around Vimar IDEA modular devices, especially when you want a consistent look across switch panels and need a reversing or intermediate function for multi-location control. The luminescent versions suit cabins and passageways where you want to find the switch quickly after dark without adding a powered indicator light.
