Overview
The Lumitec 101598 is a surface-mount stern navigation light with white output and a white finish for transom installations on 12V or 24V boats. It runs on 10-30 VDC and is U.S. Coast Guard approved for 2 NM visibility.
This light is meant for retrofit and new installs where you do not have (or do not want to cut) an inset pocket. The housing sits low at 1 in tall, with an overall size of 4.5 in wide by 2.1 in deep, and it draws 18 mA at 12V or 12 mA at 24V (rated 1.5 W).
Key features
- Surface-mount composite stern light for installs where a recessed pocket is not practical
- White output with U.S. Coast Guard approval for 2 NM visibility
- 10-30 VDC input for 12V and 24V electrical systems
- Low current draw: 18 mA at 12V, 12 mA at 24V (rated 1.5 W)
- Compact profile for transom mounting: 4.5 in wide x 2.1 in deep x 1 in tall
- Operating temperature range from -31 F (-35 C) to 131 F (55 C)
- White finish for a clean look on light-colored gelcoat and painted surfaces
Installation and setup
Mount it on a horizontal surface at the stern where the light can be seen clearly and is not blocked by outboards, dinghy hardware, ladders, or deck gear. On a transom install, plan wire routing so the cable is protected from chafe and stays supported so it does not flex at the entry point when the boat is moving.
As with any through-fastener on the exterior of a boat, seal the fastener holes and cable pass-through appropriately for your mounting surface to help keep water out of the core and wiring runs.
Electrical and system integration
This is a straightforward on and off navigation light. Wire it into your vessel lighting circuit and switch panel, using connections suited for the bilge and transom environment. The 10-30 VDC input range makes it a direct fit for most 12V and 24V DC systems without a separate driver box.
If you are replacing an older stern light, confirm the circuit protection and wiring condition while you have the old fixture off. The low current draw can be a nice upgrade for boats that spend long evenings at anchor running nav lights.
Compatibility and fit
Check clearance at the mounting location before drilling, and measure against the housing size (4.5 in wide x 2.1 in deep x 1 in tall) so it lands cleanly on the surface and does not interfere with trim tabs, tie-down points, or transom doors. This model is intended for stern navigation lighting applications; confirm your vessel requirements and placement so your overall navigation light setup remains compliant for your boat and operating area.
Use on board
This light is a good match for owners refitting older surface-mounted stern lights, or for new builds where the transom design does not allow a molded pocket. It also suits boats that see regular salt spray and washdowns, where a sealed, low-profile fixture helps keep the stern tidy and easier to clean.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the exterior after saltwater use and check the mounting screws and sealant line during routine washdowns. If your stern area sees a lot of fishing gear contact, take a quick look now and then to make sure the lens face stays clear of nicks and heavy scuffing that can reduce light output.
