Overview

The Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT 250/60 and 250/70 is a solar charge controller range for charging 12 V, 24 V, 36 V, and 48 V battery banks from a PV array, with 60 A and 70 A rated charge current options. It accepts PV open-circuit voltage up to 250 V absolute maximum, runs at up to 99% efficiency, and includes Bluetooth plus VE.Direct for setup, monitoring, and system data.

On a boat, this controller suits larger solar installations feeding house banks on cruising sailboats, powerboats, and workboats. MPPT tracking is useful where panel output changes through the day from clouds, rigging shadows, antennas, davits, or partial shading from deck gear.

The unit is built for protected installation spaces rather than exposed deck mounting. Its electronics are rated IP43 and the connection area is rated IP22, so it belongs in a dry electrical locker, equipment bay, or similar interior location with access for wiring and service.

Key features
  • MPPT solar charging for 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V battery systems with automatic voltage selection, plus 36 V selection by software tool.
  • 250 V PV input class with 250 V absolute maximum open-circuit voltage and 245 V start-up and operating maximum.
  • Two rated charge current options: 60 A for the 250/60 version and 70 A for the 250/70 version.
  • Maximum efficiency of 99% with no cooling fan, which helps keep operation quiet in interior equipment spaces.
  • Bluetooth Smart built in for wireless setup, monitoring, updates, and synchronization through the Victron ecosystem.
  • VE.Direct port for wired connection to GX devices, a PC, or other compatible Victron monitoring equipment.
  • Multi-stage adaptive charging with eight pre-programmed algorithms or a user-defined charge algorithm.
  • Protection against PV reverse polarity, output short circuit, and over-temperature conditions.
  • Remote on/off connection and a programmable relay for integration with battery management or alarm functions.
  • Up to 10 units can be synchronized with Bluetooth when the solar system uses multiple controllers.
Variants

This product is offered in two charge-current configurations within the SmartSolar MPPT 250 V range.

The main difference between the variants is rated charge current and the corresponding nominal PV power by battery voltage. The core SmartSolar features, including Bluetooth, VE.Direct communication, adaptive charging, and the same 250 V PV input class, apply across the range.

  • SCC125060221: 60 A rated charge current. This version matches installations sized around the 250/60 controller, with nominal PV power of 860 W at 12 V, 1720 W at 24 V, 2580 W at 36 V, or 3440 W at 48 V.
  • SCC125070220: 70 A rated charge current. This version supports larger arrays within the same controller family, with nominal PV power of 1000 W at 12 V, 2000 W at 24 V, 3000 W at 36 V, or 4000 W at 48 V.
Electrical and system integration

The charge profile can be adjusted through the rotary switch, display, VE.Direct, or Bluetooth, which is helpful when matching the controller to the battery chemistry and charging requirements on board. Default absorption, float, and equalization voltages are set by system voltage, and the charging algorithm can be changed when the battery bank calls for a different profile.

Bluetooth monitoring makes it practical to check solar input, battery voltage, and charging behavior without opening a panel each time. VE.Direct is useful on vessels that already use Victron GX monitoring or want wired data integration at the nav station or electrical panel.

Installation and marine fit

The controller should be installed where it is protected from direct spray, washdowns, and standing moisture. The IP43 electronics rating and IP22 connection-area rating are suitable for sheltered equipment spaces, not exposed cockpit, deck, or transom locations.

Allow space around the unit for cabling and heat dissipation, especially when the controller is working near its rated output. The operating temperature range is -30°C to +60°C, with full rated output up to 40°C before derating applies.

Use on board

This range is a strong fit for boats with meaningful solar capacity, larger house battery banks, and a need for proper charge control rather than a small trickle-charge setup. It is especially relevant for cruising boats and fishing vessels where solar helps support refrigeration, electronics, lighting, pumps, and other DC loads while away from shore power.

For refits, confirm the selected 60 A or 70 A version against the planned array size, battery-bank voltage, wire sizing, overcurrent protection, and mounting space before installation.

Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.

Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.

Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.

Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
