Overview
The Hella Marine 9680 Oblong Step Lamp is a flush-mount LED courtesy light for lighting steps, deck treads, and toe-kicks without glare. It runs on 10-33V DC with Multivolt electronics for 12V and 24V systems, and it draws 0.5W.
Optics aim the peak light output down at 30 degrees, so it puts light on the tread instead of in your eyes. The housing is IP67 sealed, with a 316 stainless steel rim and a UV and impact resistant plastic lens for wet areas and regular washdowns.
It has an oblong face size of 83.9 x 28.8 mm (about 3.30 x 1.13 in.) and needs about 20 mm (0.79 in.) of recess depth behind the mounting surface. The lamp is pre-wired with 120 mm of marine cable and weighs 35 g including the cable.
Key features
- Multivolt DC input for common onboard systems: 10-33V DC (12/24V nominal) with 0.5W power draw
- Downward 30 degree beam to light steps and deck treads without eye-level glare
- IP67 sealed for wet lockers, cockpit steps, and washdown zones
- 316 stainless steel rim with UV and impact resistant plastic lens
- Compact footprint: 83.9 x 28.8 mm face and about 20 mm recess depth behind the panel
- Pre-wired with 120 mm marine cable for straightforward hook-up
Variants
This lamp range is offered with different LED light colors and two trim finishes: Polished and Satin.
Electrical range depends on the LED color. Warm White, Blue, and White configurations are specified for 10-33V DC, while Red configurations are specified for 8-28V DC.
Compatibility and fit
This is a recessed, screw-mounted step light. It suits flat mounting surfaces where you can access the backside for wiring and where you have enough clearance for the lamp body (about 20 mm behind the surface). Common mounting spots include companionway steps, cockpit footwells, transom steps, and interior stair risers.
Installation and setup
Mount the lamp on a flat surface and use the lens as a drilling template for the two mounting holes. Orientation matters: mount with the logo at the top so the beam aims down as intended. Once secured, route the short lead to a switched lighting circuit and seal any splices in a way that matches the exposure of the area.
Electrical notes
The lamp is polarity conscious. Reversing polarity will not damage it, but it will not light. A fuse rated at 2A maximum is specified for circuit protection, and soldered connections with heat shrink tubing are a sensible approach in damp or salt-prone spaces.
Materials and sealing
The IP67 sealing helps when the installation location sees spray, condensation, or routine washdowns. The 316 stainless rim handles saltwater environments well, and the plastic lens is chosen to hold up to UV and impacts that happen around steps and passageways.
On-board use notes
Warm White is a common match for cabins and interior steps where you want a natural-looking courtesy glow. Blue and Red are often used for low-light movement on deck, with Red typically preferred when preserving dark adaptation matters.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
