Overview

The Hella Marine HypaLUME is a high-output LED floodlight built for deck and spreader lighting on commercial vessels. Light output depends on the configuration: the white versions reach 25,000 lumens on 24/48V DC and 28,000 lumens on 110/230V AC, while the 110/230V AC amber versions output 19,000 lumens. The housing is sealed for marine exposure, with AC versions rated IP66 and IP67 and DC versions rated IP6K7 and IP6K9K. Mounting can be upright or pendant, using a 316 stainless steel bracket with up to 140° of vertical adjustment, and the unit is specified to operate from -40°C to +50°C.

Variants

The HypaLUME range is configured by supply voltage (24/48V DC or 110/230V AC), light colour (white or amber), and beam pattern (close range, long range, or extra wide range).

Some specifications track with those choices. Light output differs by voltage and colour, and the sealing rating, cable length, and connector type change between the AC and DC versions. White versions are 5700 K, while amber versions are 2500 K.

Installation and setup

This is the sort of floodlight you mount where it can work like a true work light: on a mast spreader, on the wheelhouse top, on a davit, or over a working deck. The bracket allows a wide aiming range, so you can set the beam to hit the deck without throwing glare back into the bridge or cockpit.

Plan your cable run before drilling. The AC version uses a Wieland RST Mini connector on a 2.0 m sheathed lead, while the DC version uses a 4-pin Deutsch plug on a 1.8 m lead, so leaving service slack and a protected connection point makes future work much easier.

Electrical and system integration

Match the light to the vessel supply you actually have. The 24/48V DC models are specified for 22 to 52V input and are not a fit for 12V systems. The 110/230V AC models accept 100 to 240V input, which suits a range of onboard AC distributions and shore or generator power.

Account for the load at the source: up to 260W on the DC version and up to 300W on the AC version. On the DC models, the specification notes 10A at 24V DC, which is useful when sizing wiring and protection on longer cable runs.

Materials and corrosion resistance

The housing uses aluminium with anti-corrosion measures and a surface coating that is meant to be easy to clean after salt spray and washdowns. Lens material is configuration-dependent: white versions use a Grilamid lens described as impact and chemical resistant, while amber versions use PC.

Use cases on board

On working boats, this light fits jobs like lighting a net drum, a pot hauler station, a loading zone, a foredeck, or a mast-mounted spreader position where you want strong coverage during night operations. Beam pattern selection matters here: close range fills the immediate work area, extra wide spreads light across a broad deck, and long range throws further down the working line.

If you run in fog or other low-contrast conditions, the amber option is often used to improve visibility and reduce the harsh reflection you can get from very cool white light on wet surfaces.

Maintenance and care

Rinse the housing and bracket with fresh water after heavy salt exposure and keep the lens clean to preserve output. Periodically check bracket fasteners for tightness, especially on hard-working boats where vibration is constant, and inspect the cable and connector area so water does not sit in the connection point.
