Overview

The Victron Energy BPP900100200 is a CCGX Wi-Fi Module Simple in a Nano USB format for adding wireless network access to a Victron Color Control GX system on board. It plugs into the USB port on the Color Control GX and connects through a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network using 802.11n, 802.11g, or 802.11b wireless standards.

This module is a practical fit for boats that already have a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi router or marina Wi-Fi access point and need the Color Control GX online without running an Ethernet cable. Once the wireless network ID and password are entered through the Color Control GX interface, the GX system can communicate over the network and support remote monitoring through Victron Remote Management when internet access is available.

Installation and setup

Install the module directly into an available USB port on the Color Control GX, then configure the wireless network from the GX menus. On boats, Wi-Fi strength can change with bulkheads, lockers, metal panels, and the location of the router, so the GX mounting position and access point location both matter.

For a helm, nav station, or electrical panel installation where the rear USB ports are hard to reach, plan the installation so the adapter can be accessed for service. A USB extension may help in tight panels, but the Wi-Fi module should still be positioned where it can receive a steady signal.

Compatibility and use on board

This module is meant for Victron Color Control GX installations that need wireless connectivity on a 2.4 GHz network. It is well suited to cruising boats, fishing boats, and liveaboard systems where the GX device is used to keep an eye on batteries, charging sources, inverter loads, and general electrical system status.

It does not replace proper network planning on a larger vessel. Where the GX unit is far from the router or enclosed behind dense structure, Wi-Fi reception should be checked during setup before relying on remote access away from the boat.
