Overview
The Perko Horizontal Mount Side Lights is a pair of incandescent red and green navigation sidelights for horizontal mounting on power driven vessels under 20 meters, or 65.6 ft, in length. Each light uses a 12 Volt bulb, is rated at 10 watts and 0.80 amps, and is 2-mile, USCG 2nm, certified for the intended application.
This set is made for the bow area where separate port and starboard sidelights are preferred instead of a single bi-color light. The 3-1/2 in length, 2-1/4 in width, and 1-5/8 in height keep the lights compact enough for many foredeck, rub rail, cabin top, or console-side mounting locations while still giving the required red and green navigation sectors when installed correctly.
Gold plated contacts help with electrical connection quality in the marine environment, and the available finishes let the same light style match chrome hardware, black trim, or white gelcoat.
Key features
- Pair of horizontal mount port and starboard sidelights with red and green lenses for navigation use on power driven vessels under 20 meters.
- 2-mile, USCG 2nm, certification supports the required visibility range for the listed vessel class.
- 12 Volt incandescent bulbs are included, with each light rated at 10 watts and 0.80 amps.
- Housing options cover chrome plated bronze with a black polymer base, all black polymer, or all white polymer.
- Gold plated contacts help maintain a clean electrical contact point in a damp, salt-exposed setting.
- Compact footprint measures 3-1/2 in long by 2-1/4 in wide by 1-5/8 in high.
- Uses #8 fasteners, allowing straightforward mounting on a suitable horizontal surface.
Variants
This product is offered in three finish configurations, with the same horizontal mount sidelight format across the range.
The finish and housing construction are the visible differences between variants. The 12 Volt bulb, 10 watt rating per light, 0.80 amp draw per light, red and green lenses, gold plated contacts, 2-mile USCG certification, main dimensions, and #8 screw size remain consistent across the listed configurations.
- 0253M00DP1: Chrome finish. This version uses a chrome plated bronze top with a black polymer base, which suits boats with chrome deck hardware or polished exterior trim.
- 0253B00DP1: Black finish. This all black polymer version blends well with dark windshields, black consoles, rub rails, and modern deck hardware.
- 0253W00DP1: White finish. This all white polymer version is a clean match for white gelcoat, cabin tops, and light-colored deck areas.
Installation and fit
These lights mount on a horizontal surface and should be positioned so the red lens is on the port side and the green lens is on the starboard side. Before drilling, check that the mounting surface is flat, strong enough for fasteners, and located where rails, anchors, canvas, trolling motors, or deck gear will not block the light sectors.
The listed #8 screw size is useful when planning the installation, but fastener material and bedding compound should be selected for the boat’s deck material and exposure. On cored decks or thin fiberglass, seal all holes carefully to keep water out of the structure.
Electrical and system notes
The included bulbs are for 12 Volt systems. These lights can be used in certain 24 Volt applications only when fitted with the appropriate 24 Volt replacement bulbs and where the installation requirements are satisfied, so the 12 Volt configuration should not be connected directly to 24 Volt power as supplied.
For a clean installation, route wiring where it is protected from standing water, chafe, and service movement. Use marine tinned wire, heat shrink terminals, and the proper circuit protection for the vessel’s navigation light circuit.
Use on board
This sidelight pair fits small and midsize powerboats that need separate port and starboard navigation lights on a horizontal mounting surface. It is a practical match for refits where the boat already has this style of light, as well as for helm, bow, or cabin top layouts where a low horizontal light housing makes more sense than a vertical mount fixture.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt and grime from the lenses and housings during normal washdowns, then check that the lenses remain clear and securely seated. Periodically confirm that both bulbs illuminate, that the contacts are clean, and that the mounting fasteners remain tight after vibration and seasonal use.
