Overview

The Garmin 010-12256-21 is a headset audio cable for VIRB X and VIRB XE that lets your camera record cockpit headset audio in stereo while you keep using the headset normally. It plugs in-line between the audio out jack and the headset, then feeds the same audio to the camera so intercom, radio traffic, and spoken narration end up on the video. The cable is 5 ft 9 in (1.75 m) long, which gives you enough reach to mount the VIRB where it has a clear view and still route the lead along existing wiring runs.

This cable can carry stereo music or auxiliary audio sources when they are present on the same output, and it preserves 3D Audio when used with compatible radios and audio panels. For boat use, it can be a clean way to capture headset-based comms at an enclosed helm or cockpit, as long as your system provides an audio out jack that matches your headset connection.

Key features
  • Compatible with VIRB X and VIRB XE action cameras
  • 5 ft 9 in (1.75 m) length for flexible camera placement and cleaner routing
  • In-line connection between the audio out jack and headset keeps the headset plugged in while audio is recorded
  • Stereo recording for headset audio, with support for 3D Audio when available from compatible radios and audio panels
  • Passes through stereo music and auxiliary audio sources carried on the same output
Installation and setup

Route the cable so it will not interfere with controls, seat travel, or a moving helm. Connect it in-line between the audio out jack and your headset, then connect the camera end to your VIRB before you start recording.

After the first connection, do a short test clip with normal headset volume so you can confirm levels before a long run. Secure the cable with gentle strain relief at each connector and keep the plugs away from standing water, spray, and high-chafe areas.

Compatibility and fit

This accessory is intended for VIRB X and VIRB XE and is meant to sit between a headset and an audio out jack. Before ordering, confirm you have the correct jack type and enough clearance at the panel for an in-line connection without putting side load on the sockets.

If you are integrating it into an onboard comms setup, verify that the audio out you plan to tap is suitable for a headset-style connection and that recording that feed is permitted for your use case.

Use cases on board

A good match for skippers and crews who run a VIRB at the helm and want the same comms and narration they hear in their headset captured on the video. It also suits training and review where recorded radio and intercom audio matters as much as the footage.

Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.

Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.

Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.

Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
