Overview

The Garmin MSC 10 is a marine satellite compass that uses multi-band GNSS to output GPS-based heading, attitude, and heave data on a NMEA 2000 network. It tracks L1 and L5 GPS bands, updates position at 10 Hz, and is rated for position accuracy within 1 meter with heading accuracy of 2-degree RMS in dynamic conditions.

The housing is IPX7-rated and measures 334 x 156 x 66 mm, with a weight of 810 g. It runs from 9 to 32 Vdc on the NMEA 2000 backbone with a typical draw of about 2 W (LEN 6).

Because heading comes from satellite signals, magnetic interference onboard does not skew the primary heading source. An internal magnetic compass can be enabled as a backup for places where GNSS can be blocked, and that backup mode benefits from calibration after installation.

Key features
  • NMEA 2000 connectivity for sharing heading, rate-of-turn, attitude, and heave data across the network
  • Multi-band GNSS receiver (L1 and L5 GPS) with 10 Hz position updates for smooth tracking
  • GPS-based heading that is not affected by onboard magnetic fields
  • Backup magnetometer-based heading option for bridges, covered slips, and other GNSS-challenged areas (calibration recommended)
  • IPX7 water rating for incidental exposure and deck washdowns
  • Wide 9 to 32 Vdc input range with typical network draw around 2 W (LEN 6)
Variants

This compass is offered in two color options to match different helm and topside layouts.

Function, network integration, and mounting method remain the same across the range. The operating temperature rating differs by color.

  • 010-02407-00: White housing. Operating temperature range is -15 to 70°C, which suits exposed mounts that see strong sun load.
  • 010-02407-10: Black housing. Operating temperature range is -15 to 60°C for typical topside installations in warm and cold conditions.
Installation and setup

Mount the MSC 10 where it has a clear, unobstructed view of the sky and horizon. Avoid locations shaded by a hardtop, mast, radome, or other superstructure, and keep it away from engines and other sources of EMI.

It can be surface-mounted on a flat deck or hardtop, or installed on a standard 1 inch OD, 14 TPI stainless pole using the pole-mount adapter. Align the unit toward the bow using the sight marks on top, route the cable away from interference, and seal the cable pass-through and fasteners with marine sealant as needed.

Compatibility and fit

The MSC 10 is built for boats with a NMEA 2000 backbone, where it can act as the heading source for chartplotter functions and other onboard systems that reference heading data. If you plan to use the backup magnetic compass, choose a mounting spot that is free of ferrous hardware and verify the area with a handheld compass before final fastening.

Use on board

This is a good match for boats that want steady heading data without chasing magnetic interference, especially when feeding an autopilot or using features that rely on heading at low speeds. The heave and attitude data can also be useful when you want motion information available at the helm for rough-water runs.

Maintenance and care

Rinse salt and grime off the casing as part of regular washdowns. For deeper cleaning, use a cloth dampened with mild detergent and water, then wipe dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents that can damage plastic components.

Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.

Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.

Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.

Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
