Overview
The Perko 1091 is a surface mount locking T-handle latch for smooth and carpeted marine surfaces, offered with black or white bodies and several cam bar configurations. It is a practical fit for hatches, lockers, deck compartments, cockpit storage, and similar access points where a flush-drop handle and keyed lock are needed.
The lock uses a polymer body, a chrome plated zinc alloy T-handle, and a stainless steel stem. It installs in a 2-1/2 inch diameter hole and fits mounting surfaces from 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch thick, with a 3 inch face plate that covers the cutout cleanly.
For smooth surfaces, the included gasket helps seat the lock against fiberglass or other flat panels. For carpeted panels, the toothed back helps the body grip the surface without relying on a smooth bedding area.
Key features
- Surface mount locking latch for smooth fiberglass panels and carpeted boat surfaces.
- Flush-drop T-handle sits down in the open or closed position after a 180 degree turn, helping reduce snag points in walkways, cockpit areas, and storage lids.
- Polymer body options in black or white, both paired with a chrome plated zinc alloy handle.
- Stainless steel stem for the latch mechanism, a useful detail in damp lockers and exposed deck storage areas.
- Fits a 2-1/2 inch diameter installation hole and mounting surfaces from 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch thick.
- Cam bar options cover several reach ranges, including no-cam-bar versions for installations where the cam bar is selected separately.
- Keyed lock with two keys for securing gear, tackle, dock lines, tools, and other onboard storage.
Variants
This Perko 1091 range varies by body color and cam bar configuration. Body color options are black and white, both using the same chrome handle style shown for this product family.
The cam bar selection changes the latch reach and determines how the lock engages behind the panel or frame. Available configurations include no cam bar, 3/4 to 2-3/8 inches, 1-1/4 to 1-7/8 inches, 1/2 to 3 inches, 1-1/4 to 2 inches, 1-1/8 to 2 inches, and versions referenced to Fig. 1075. The right configuration depends on the lid thickness, backing clearance, and latch catch position on the boat.
Installation and fit
Plan the installation around the 2-1/2 inch cutout, the 3 inch face plate, and the 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch mounting surface range. Before drilling, check the space behind the panel so the stem and cam bar can rotate without hitting insulation, liners, wiring, or the edge of the compartment.
On a smooth hatch or locker face, the gasket helps the body sit evenly against the surface. On carpeted panels, the toothed back helps the lock bite into the carpeted face so the hardware stays positioned during normal opening and closing.
Use on board
This lock suits small-boat and cruising-boat storage where a low-profile handle is preferred over a raised pull. It works well for lockers that see regular use, such as cockpit storage, fishing gear compartments, under-seat hatches, dock line storage, and utility access panels.
The keyed lock makes sense where loose gear needs to stay secured at the dock or on the trailer. For exterior locations, confirm that the surrounding hatch design drains properly and that the latch area is not the only barrier against standing water.
