Overview
The Perko 0170 Series is a red LED port side navigation light for sailboats and powerboats under 20 meters, with a 2-mile USCG 2nm rating and a 112-1/2 degree visibility arc. It is made for vertical side mounting on the port side, where the red light needs to show the correct sector while staying clear of glare and obstruction.
This series uses LED technology with a clear lens appearance when the light is not illuminated. Across the range, the light measures 4-1/8 inches wide, 3-5/8 inches high, and projects 2-1/4 inches from the mounting surface, with #10 mounting screws specified for installation.
Voltage and housing finish depend on the selected variant, with 12 Volt and 24 Volt options available for matching the vessel electrical system.
Key features
- Red port side navigation light with a 112-1/2 degree visibility arc for correct sidelight coverage.
- 2-mile USCG 2nm certified visibility for sail or power driven vessels under 20 meters.
- LED operation uses less than half the energy draw of standard lights, with low heat and long service life.
- Available in 12 Volt and 24 Volt versions to match common DC marine electrical systems.
- Housing choices include chrome plated brass with black polymer base, all white polymer, and all black polymer.
- Clear lens appearance when off helps the fixture sit cleanly on the hull or cabin side.
- Uses #10 mounting screws, with a 4-1/8 inch width, 3-5/8 inch height, and 2-1/4 inch overall projection for fit checks before drilling.
Variants
The range varies by housing finish and nominal voltage. Housing options include chrome plated brass with a black polymer base, white polymer, and black polymer, with each finish offered for either 12 Volt or 24 Volt installations.
The light function and core mounting dimensions remain consistent across the listed configurations: red port sidelight, 2-mile visibility, 112-1/2 degree arc, #10 screw size, 4-1/8 inch overall width, 3-5/8 inch overall height, and 2-1/4 inch overall projection.
Installation and setup
Mount the red sidelight vertically on the port side, in the same athwartship plane and at the same height as the green starboard sidelight. For proper navigation light layout, the sidelights should sit at least 1 meter below the masthead light.
Remove the lens assembly before mounting the base. Use round head or pan head screws with a 5 mm or #10 diameter, and do not use countersunk screws. After wiring, refit the lens assembly and tighten the mounting screw.
Electrical and system integration
Select the variant that matches the vessel supply voltage. The 12 Volt version is rated at 4.65 watts with current draw under 0.31 amps, while the 24 Volt version is rated at 2.52 watts with current draw under 0.09 amps.
Observe voltage and polarity when connecting the supply leads. Use cable sized to keep total voltage drop below 0.5 Volt on a 12 Volt installation or below 1 Volt on a 24 Volt installation; 1.5 mm2 or No. 16 AWG is the recommended minimum cable size.
Use cases on board
This light suits refits and new installations where a dedicated red port sidelight is needed on a boat under 20 meters. The 12 Volt versions fit many small cruisers, fishing boats, and sailboats, while the 24 Volt versions suit vessels already built around a 24 Volt DC system.
The finish choice is mostly about the mounting surface and the look of the boat. Chrome plated brass with a black base fits bright hardware layouts, while white or black polymer housings blend more quietly into matching topsides, cabins, or console areas.
Maintenance and care
Clean the light with fresh water and mild detergent. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners around the lens and housing, especially where salt, UV exposure, and regular washdowns are part of normal use.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
