Overview
The Perko 0066 Scoop Strainer is a cast bronze intake scoop strainer for protecting raw-water through-hull openings from larger debris while keeping water available to onboard plumbing and cooling systems.
The body uses machined slots and is offered in four sizes, covering thru-hull sizes from 3/8 in and 1/2 in up to 2 in. All listed sizes use #8 mounting screws, so the main buying decision is matching the strainer footprint and thru-hull size to the intake location on the hull.
This is a straightforward external strainer for boats that need a bronze fitting at a raw-water pickup point, such as engine cooling, generator intake, washdown, or other seawater-fed systems where an exterior scoop strainer is appropriate.
Key features
- Cast bronze construction for a hull-mounted raw-water intake application.
- Machined slots help keep larger debris away from the through-hull opening.
- Four footprint sizes support thru-hull sizes from 3/8 in and 1/2 in through 2 in.
- Scoop-style exterior profile suits intake locations that need water pickup while the boat is underway.
- Uses #8 mounting screws across the range, helping keep installation hardware selection consistent.
Variants
This scoop strainer range is offered in multiple sizes so the outside strainer can be matched to the thru-hull opening and the space available on the hull.
The options change by strainer footprint and compatible thru-hull size. The cast bronze body, machined slots, and #8 screw size remain consistent across these listed variants.
- 0066DP1PLB: 3-1/2 x 2-1/2 in strainer for 3/8 in and 1/2 in thru-hull sizes. This is the smallest footprint in the range for compact raw-water pickup locations.
- 0066DP2PLB: 5 x 3-1/4 in strainer for 3/4 in and 1 in thru-hull sizes. This size gives more cover area for mid-size intake openings.
- 0066DP3PLB: 6-1/4 x 4-1/4 in strainer for 1-1/4 in and 1-1/2 in thru-hull sizes. This option suits larger seawater intake plumbing where the hull opening needs broader coverage.
- 0066DP4PLB: 8 x 5-1/8 in strainer for a 2 in thru-hull size. This is the largest option in the group for the largest supported opening in this range.
Installation and fit
Select the variant by matching the thru-hull size first, then confirm that the outside footprint fits the available hull area with enough room for fastening. The strainer mounts on the exterior of the hull over the intake opening, so its placement should be checked against hull shape, trailer bunks, lift pads, nearby fittings, and service access inside the boat.
Because this is an exterior scoop strainer, it should be installed with the intake layout and water flow direction in mind. The connected thru-hull, seacock, hose, clamps, and bonding approach should match the vessel’s plumbing plan and normal marine installation practice.
Use cases on board
This product is a practical match for boats that use raw-water intake systems and need an external bronze strainer at the hull opening. It fits the needs of many cruising, fishing, and general-purpose powerboat or sailboat installations where a simple scoop strainer is preferred for protecting the intake from leaves, weed, shells, and similar debris.
