Overview
The Simrad 000-12249-001 is a V5035 Class-A AIS transceiver with an integrated 3.5-inch color LCD for monitoring traffic and managing Class-A AIS reporting from one station.
It is IMO type approved for SOLAS carriage requirements and can be configured and operated without an external display. AIS data and sensor information can be shared through the included junction box, which provides a NMEA 2000 connection and three bi-directional NMEA 0183 ports.
The package includes a GPS antenna and a pilot plug assembly. A VHF antenna is still required for the AIS VHF connection.
Key features
- IMO type-approved Class-A AIS transponder for SOLAS carriage requirements
- Integrated 3.5-inch color LCD with rotary dial and six-button keypad for standalone operation
- Display modes include basic coastline, radar-style, alphanumeric contact list, and satellite view
- Included junction box with NMEA 2000 and three bi-directional NMEA 0183 ports for AIS sharing and external sensor inputs
- Supplied GPS antenna with a 10 m cable for position input
- Pilot plug assembly support for connection to a Personal Pilot Unit (PPU)
Installation and setup
The main unit can be bracket mounted or panel mounted. Place it where the screen is readable on watch and where the controls can be used quickly in a seaway.
Route power and data cables with the rest of the nav wiring, keeping them secured against vibration and protected from chafe. If the junction box is mounted out of sight, leave enough service loop to access terminals later.
Antenna and GPS placement
For AIS operation, connect the unit to a VHF antenna system that is installed and tuned for the vessel. The supplied GPS antenna mounts where it has a clear view of the sky; keep it separated from other antennas and higher-power transmitters when practical.
Network and equipment compatibility
The junction box gives you both NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 paths, which helps when the vessel has mixed-generation electronics. AIS targets and vessel information can be shared to compatible navigation systems, including Simrad GN70, MX610, MX612, and E5000-series ECDIS.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
