Overview

The Hella Marine 178555241 is a 24V, 70W H3 halogen replacement bulb for deck floodlamps and search lights that run on a 24V system. At 70W it draws about 3A, so it is a good match when you need the same output your fixture was built around without changing wiring, fusing, or heat load.

This is an H3 lamp with a PK22s base, so fit is defined by the bulb type and base style as much as voltage and wattage. If your light calls out H3 24V 70W on the housing, manual, or existing bulb, this is the correct format to replace it.

Key features
  • 24V, 70W H3 halogen bulb for marine deck lights and search lights that specify this lamp format
  • PK22s base style to match H3 fixtures that use the keyed metal base
  • Approximately 3A draw at 24V, helpful for confirming circuit and switch loading
  • Halogen light output that stays white and focused when used with the fixture reflector and lens
  • Direct replacement when the existing lamp is marked H3 24V 70W, with no changes to the light housing
Compatibility and fit

Match three things before ordering: bulb type (H3), system voltage (24V), and wattage (70W). Swapping a 12V bulb into a 24V circuit can fail instantly, and fitting a different wattage can change beam performance and heat inside the housing.

Also confirm the base style. H3 bulbs commonly use a PK22s base and a lead connection, so check that your fixture uses the same keyed base and terminal arrangement as the bulb you are removing.

Installation and handling

Shut power off at the breaker and let the light cool before opening the housing. Halogen bulbs run hot, and a hot lens or reflector can hold heat longer than you expect in an enclosed flood or search light.

Handle the bulb by the base. Avoid touching the glass with bare fingers; oils can create hot spots on the quartz envelope. Seat the base fully, secure the retainer, and make sure the lead connection is snug and routed so it cannot chafe against the reflector or pinch under the cover.

Use on board

This bulb makes the most sense on boats and workboats with 24V lighting circuits where deck work lights or a search light need consistent output for docking, line handling, and spotting channel markers at night. Keeping a spare on board can cut downtime when a deck flood or search light is critical to your routine.

Maintenance and spares

After replacement, clean the lens and inspect gaskets so spray and washdowns do not leave salt inside the housing. If you see moisture or discoloration inside the lens, address the seal before the new bulb spends hours cooking trapped humidity.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
