Overview
The Hella Marine 998502021 is a fixed mount twin beam search light that installs through a cabin roof for deck use on 12V boats. It uses two halogen beams on separate switches and can be aimed with 360° rotation and 30° vertical adjustment, so you can work the light around the bow, dock, or channel markers without moving the unit itself.
With both beams on, plan for a 110W load (2 x 55W). Overall height is 488 mm and the base diameter is 154 mm, which helps when you are checking clearance above the headliner and choosing a spot that will not interfere with hatches, handrails, or a radar arch.
Key features
- Through-cabin roof mounting for a stable deck installation
- 360° rotation with 30° up/down adjustment for aiming where you need it
- Twin reflectors with two halogen bulbs on separate switches for close range and long range use
- 12V DC version with 2 x 55W H3 bulbs (110W total when both beams are on)
- Extended front edge that helps protect the glass lens from knocks on deck
- Overall height 488 mm with a 154 mm base diameter for layout planning
Installation and setup
This style of search light mounts through the cabin roof, with the light head and base outside and the control hardware accessible from inside the cabin or wheelhouse. When you choose the location, leave room for the head to rotate and tilt, and make sure the inside run clears liners, grab rails, and overhead wiring.
Because it sits in an exposed area, bed the mounting base properly and route the wiring with a drip loop so water does not track into the cabin.
Electrical and system integration
Use it on a 12V DC system and size the switch, wiring, and circuit protection for the full 110W draw when both beams are running. If your boat is 24V, this 12V version is not a direct match.
Use cases on board
This light is a good fit for skippers who dock in unlit marinas, pick up moorings after dark, or want a dedicated deck search light that can be aimed quickly from inside. It is also useful on fishing boats for spotting buoys and gear at night without leaving the helm.
Maintenance and spares
Keep spare H3 halogen bulbs on board and avoid touching the glass when replacing them. After heavy spray or washdowns, a quick rinse and a visual check of the lens area helps keep the light working as expected.
