Overview
The Victron Energy Orion-Tr Isolated DC-DC Converter is a galvanically isolated DC-DC converter for boats that need regulated DC power between 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V electrical systems. This 110 to 120 W range covers step-up, step-down, and same-voltage isolated configurations, with output currents from 2.5 A to 9 A depending on the selected model.
It is a practical fit for powering sensitive DC loads, electronics, control circuits, or small auxiliary distribution feeds where a stable output and electrical separation between circuits matter. Galvanic isolation is rated at 200 VDC between input, output, and case, helping reduce issues from shared grounds and stray current paths in mixed-voltage marine systems.
The compact housing measures 100 x 113 x 47 mm and uses screw terminals that accept cable up to 6 mm² or AWG10. The unit carries an IP43 rating when installed with the screw terminals facing downward, so placement and orientation should be considered carefully in lockers, consoles, technical spaces, and protected equipment areas.
Key features
- Isolated DC-DC conversion for 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V systems, with 110 W or 120 W continuous output depending on configuration.
- Remote on/off terminal allows control from a low-power switch or engine run/stop signal without placing a high-current switch in the input cable.
- Output voltage is adjustable within the supported range for the selected output voltage: 10-15 V, 18-30 V, or 40-60 V.
- Short-circuit protection is built in, and multiple units can be connected in parallel when more output current is required.
- High temperature protection reduces output current in hot conditions rather than simply shutting the unit down.
- IP43 protection applies when the screw terminals are mounted facing downward, which suits protected onboard installation spaces rather than exposed deck locations.
- Screw terminal DC connections make installation straightforward and serviceable with standard marine electrical tools.
- Current draw is less than 200 uA when disabled through the remote port, useful for boats that sit for long periods between use.
Variants
This Orion-Tr range varies by input voltage, output voltage, and output current. The available configurations include 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V inputs, with 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V outputs, so the main selection point is matching the converter to the vessel’s source voltage and the load voltage required by the equipment being powered.
Across this 110 to 120 W group, the housing size, screw terminal connection style, 200 VDC galvanic isolation rating, and IP43 rating remain the same. Output current varies by voltage: 9 A on 12 V output models, 5 A on 24 V output models, and 2.5 A on 48 V output models.
Installation and setup
Mount the converter in a dry, protected location with enough airflow around the case, away from direct spray, standing water, and heat sources. The IP43 rating depends on the screw terminals facing downward, so the unit should not be installed upside down or in a position where water can collect at the terminals.
Use the correct cable size and overcurrent protection for the vessel’s wiring plan, load current, and cable run. The 12 V and 24 V input models include a non-replaceable input fuse, but that does not replace proper circuit protection at the source battery or distribution panel.
Electrical integration on board
This converter is useful when a boat has mixed-voltage equipment, such as a 24 V house system feeding 12 V electronics, or a 12 V system supplying a small 24 V load. It can also be used where the same nominal voltage is needed on both sides but galvanic isolation is required between circuits.
The Orion-Tr isolated converter is not a DC-DC battery charger. For charging a starter battery, service battery, or lithium battery from another DC source, a dedicated DC-DC charger from the Orion-Tr Smart range is the more appropriate type of product.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.
Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.
Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.
Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.
Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
