Overview
The Victron Energy Orion-Tr Isolated DC-DC Converter is a 360-400 W galvanically isolated converter range for matching 12 V, 24 V or 48 V DC supplies to onboard DC loads that need a stable output voltage. It is used when one DC system on the vessel needs to feed equipment on another voltage, such as running 24 V electronics from a 12 V service bank or supplying 12 V loads from a 24 V or 48 V installation.
The range covers 12 V, 24 V and 48 V input systems, with nominal output options of 12.2 V, 24.2 V and 48.2 V depending on the selected model. Output voltage is adjustable across the matching range, with 10-15 V for 12 V output models, 18-30 V for 24 V output models and 40-60 V for 48 V output models.
For marine electrical work, the important details are the isolation and installation format. The unit has 200 VDC galvanic isolation between input, output and case, screw-terminal DC connections, low 2 mV rms output noise and an operating temperature range of -20 to +55 °C with derating above 40 °C.

Output current ranges from 8 A to 30 A across the range. The Orion-Tr isolated platform, remote on/off terminal, screw-terminal DC connections, 200 VDC galvanic isolation, 2 mV rms output noise and -20 to +55 °C operating temperature range remain consistent across these 360-400 W models.
Installation and fit
Mount the converter in a dry, ventilated electrical space with access to the screw terminals and enough clearance for heat dissipation. The IP43 rating depends on mounting orientation, so the screw terminals should face downward where splash protection matters.
Size the wiring, fuse protection and cable runs around the selected voltage and output current. The 12 V input and 12 V output models have a 130 x 186 x 80 mm body and weigh about 1.8 kg, while the other models measure 130 x 186 x 70 mm and weigh about 1.6 kg.
Electrical and system integration
The remote on/off terminal is useful on boats where the converter should follow an ignition signal, engine run signal, battery switch logic or a small control switch at the helm or panel. When disabled through the remote port, current consumption is below 200 µA, which helps reduce standby draw on stored vessels.
This converter is for stable DC power conversion, not dedicated battery charging. For house-to-start or alternator-to-service battery charging applications, a DC-DC charger from the appropriate charging range should be used instead.
Use on board
This range fits refits and new builds where different DC voltages coexist on the same vessel. It is a practical match for powering electronics, controls, communications equipment, lighting circuits or auxiliary DC loads when the required load voltage does not match the battery bank voltage.
The isolated design is especially useful on boats with mixed equipment grounds, sensitive electronics or separated DC subsystems where clean circuit separation matters as much as voltage conversion.
