Overview
The i2Systems Apeiron A3101Z is a screw-mount LED downlight that runs on 9-30V DC and draws 2.5W for white lighting with a 90 degree beam. It fits a 2.59 in mounting hole, has a 3.50 in face, and needs about 1.07 in of clearance behind the mounting surface, which helps when headliner space is tight.
The housing is stainless steel with a brushed nickel trim bezel that uses a PVD titanium-coated finish, and the lens is tempered glass with a diffuser to keep the output even. The fixture is IP67 rated for wet locations and washdowns, but it is not intended for submersible installs or spots where water can stand around the light.
Key features
- 9-30V DC input range for typical 12V and 24V onboard electrical systems
- 2.5W draw per fixture for the white LED version, about 0.21A at 12V and about 0.10A at 24V
- 90 degree beam angle for general downlighting in overhead panels
- IP67 rating for wet areas and routine washdowns; not for submersion or standing water locations
- Screw-mount installation with a removable bezel for easier access after install
- Stainless steel housing, brushed nickel PVD titanium-coated trim, and a tempered glass lens with diffuser
- Leads are 18 in long in 18 AWG, with reverse polarity protection and transient protection built in
- Dimming supported with an optional dimming control lead, when used with a compatible control setup
Variants
This light is offered in multiple configurations that change the white light color.
The listed variants share the same A3101Z screw-mount form factor and brushed nickel trim; the difference is the white color temperature.
- A3101Z-41CAB: Warm white (3000K). Warm light that feels closer to a traditional halogen tone for cabins and evening use.
- A3101Z-41A08N: Cool white (6500K). Cooler light that reads crisper for task areas and brighter-looking surfaces.
Installation and setup
Plan for a 2.59 in cutout and three equally spaced screw holes on a 3.12 in circle. Allow about 1.07 in of depth behind the mounting surface, plus room to route and secure the leads so they cannot chafe under vibration. The removable bezel is helpful when you need access later without pulling the whole headliner panel.
In damp overheads, sealing the fixture edge and nearby junction points helps keep moisture from migrating into wiring spaces. Avoid mounting locations where water can pool against the face of the light.
Electrical and system integration
Connect to a DC supply in the 9-30V range using the red positive and black negative leads. If you are using dimming, the yellow lead is for dimming control and should be routed to the dimming control circuit rather than tied into the main 12/24V feed. For multi-light installs, size wiring and overcurrent protection for the total load based on the number of fixtures on the circuit.
Use on board
This style of downlight is commonly used under hardtops, in pilot houses, along soffits, and anywhere you want a small overhead fixture without a deep can behind it. It is a good match for refits that are replacing older halogen puck lights and want a screw-mounted light with service access from the front.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt residue when practical and clean the trim and lens with fresh water and a mild soap. Skip abrasive pads and strong solvents on the finished bezel to keep the surface looking consistent over time.
