Overview
The i2Systems Apeiron PRO A503 is a 3W spring mount LED downlight for 9-30VDC systems, with a 120° beam that spreads light across cabins, cockpits, and enclosed helms. It installs through a 2.75 in cutout and uses a trim that sits at about 3.15 in across, with roughly 1.37 in of mounting depth behind the panel.
White light options cover 3000K, 4000K, and 5700K, and some configurations add red and blue for night running or low-glare use. Dimming can reach down to 1% with LightLink dimmers or compatible third party dimming systems, and one, two, and three color lights can be run on the same circuit.
Key features
- 3W draw with typical output around 150 lumens
- 9-30VDC input range to suit both 12V and 24V DC banks
- 120° beam angle for general lighting over a wide area
- Spring mount hardware for quick installs in headliners, hardtops, and interior liners
- 2.75 in cutout size with a trim profile around 3.15 in across and about 1.37 in depth behind the surface
- Two-wire power hookup (red positive, black ground) plus an optional yellow dimming control wire
- IP67 rating for wet marine environments, with guidance to avoid submersion or mounting where standing water can collect
- Stainless steel trim with an anodized aluminum housing and a tempered glass lens with diffuser
- Electrical protection that includes 3-stage surge suppression, reverse polarity protection, an auto-reset fuse, and active thermal management
Variants
This downlight line is offered with different bezel shapes (round, square/round, and square/square) and trim finishes such as White Finish, Brushed Nickel Finish, and Chrome Finish. The visible bezel shape and finish are the main factors for matching existing interior hardware and keeping a consistent look across zones on the boat.
Light color varies between Warm White, Neutral White, and Cool White, with some configurations adding red and/or blue as additional selectable colors. Across the range, the core fit and electrical profile stays in the A503 family: 3W, 9-30VDC input, and a 120° beam, with spring mount installation.
Installation and setup
Plan for a 2.75 in mounting hole and enough clearance behind the panel for the fixture body and wiring. The spring mount holds the light in place without screws, which works well for refits where you want a clean finish and minimal disruption to the headliner or hardtop core.
In damp locations, it helps to keep water out of wiring spaces by sealing around the cutout and any nearby junction points with electronics-grade RTV silicone. Avoid mounting where water can pond or sit against the back of the liner.
Electrical and dimming integration
For basic on/off operation, wire red to DC positive and black to common ground on a protected lighting circuit. For dimming, use the yellow control lead with a compatible dimmer. The dimming control line is intended for up to 30VDC max, and PWM dimming signals are typically in the 100Hz to 1kHz range.
Materials and environmental use
The housing uses stainless steel trim with an anodized aluminum body and a tempered glass diffuser, which holds up well in salt air, vibration, and routine washdowns. Operating temperature is listed from -20°C to 40°C, with a maximum case temperature of 50°C.
Use cases on board
This light fits well in overhead general lighting layouts where you want a wide beam and a low profile trim, such as the salon, cabins, heads, pilot house, cockpit seating areas, and under hardtops or arches. It is also a good match for owners upgrading older downlights and wanting smooth low-level dimming, with optional red and blue selections for night vision-friendly lighting.
