Overview
This Blue Sea Systems dimmer rocker switch is a Contura-style SPDT control switch for adjusting marine lighting through compatible dimmer systems. It uses an (ON)-OFF-(ON) momentary action, with BRIGHT and DIM legends that make the control easy to identify at the helm, cabin switch panel, cockpit, or other lighting control station.
The switch is rated for 20A at 12V and 15A at 24V, giving it coverage for common DC electrical systems found on many boats. It mounts in Blue Sea Systems waterproof panels and works with Contura switch mounting panels and accessories, making it a clean fit for panel upgrades, replacement switch banks, and dimmer control installations.
Internal and external gasket panel seals help protect the panel opening in wet marine locations, and the operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C suits exposed cabins, utility spaces, and seasonal storage conditions.
Key features
- SPDT rocker switch with (ON)-OFF-(ON) action for momentary bright and dim control.
- BRIGHT and DIM legends help users identify the lighting adjustment function quickly.
- Rated for 20A at 12V and 15A at 24V for use with common marine DC systems.
- Mounts in Blue Sea Systems waterproof panels for installations where spray and moisture are expected.
- Compatible with Contura switch mounting panels and accessories for a consistent switch bank layout.
- Internal and external gasket panel seals support a cleaner installation in water-resistant panels.
- Operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C for use across a wide range of marine environments.
- Made for use with Blue Sea Systems Deckhand Dimmer installations.
Variants
This dimmer rocker switch is offered in two actuator color configurations for matching the look of an existing Blue Sea Systems panel or a new Contura switch layout.
The color changes between variants, while the core switch function remains the same across the range: SPDT operation, (ON)-OFF-(ON) action, BRIGHT and DIM legend, and compatibility with Blue Sea Systems waterproof panels.
- 8291: Black actuator. The black finish works well in dark switch panels and helm layouts where a low-glare look is preferred.
- 8216: Gray actuator. The gray finish matches lighter Contura-style panel layouts and can help separate lighting controls from other switch functions by appearance.
Installation and fit
This switch is meant for panel-mounted use rather than loose inline switching. It fits Blue Sea Systems waterproof panels and can be used with Contura mounting panels, brackets, and related accessories when building or refreshing a switch bank.
Because the switch is a control for dimming rather than a complete lighting dimmer by itself, it should be matched with the proper dimmer module and wiring layout for the lighting circuit. For boat owners replacing an existing dimmer rocker, the most important checks are actuator color, switch action, pole and throw, panel style, and the voltage and current rating of the circuit.
Use on board
This switch suits cabin, cockpit, helm, and deck lighting circuits where quick brightness adjustment is useful without adding a digital display or separate control pad. It is a good match for boats using Blue Sea Systems Contura panels and Deckhand Dimmer components, especially when a consistent factory-style switch layout matters.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team.
