Overview

The JL Audio MX is a range of Class D marine and powersports amplifiers for 12 volt, negative-ground audio systems. Across the line you can choose 1-, 3-, or 4-channel layouts with total power ratings from 280 W to 600 W, and water-resistance ratings of IPX6 or IPX7 depending on the model.

They accept RCA inputs and can also be fed from speaker-level outputs using an adaptor, with an input-voltage switch to match the signal (low range 250 mV to 4 V; high range up to 14 V or 15 V, depending on model). Controls sit under a gasketed cover so you can set gain and filter settings and then close it back up for use on board.

Variants

This amplifier range is offered in several configurations. The channel count and total power are the main differences, and the installation requirements such as wire size, fuse rating, and water-resistance rating follow the specific model.

All versions are intended for 12 volt, negative-ground systems and use a covered control panel for gain and filter settings.

• 010-03324-00: 1 channel, 300 W total power. A monoblock subwoofer amplifier that can be used alone or as a matched stereo pair.
• 010-03325-00: 1 channel, 500 W total power. A monoblock subwoofer amplifier with more output for a single subwoofer channel.
• 010-03326-00: 3 channels, 600 W total power. Runs a pair of main speakers plus a dedicated subwoofer channel from one chassis.
• 010-03105-00: 4 channels, 280 W total power. A full-range amp for four speakers, with the option to bridge channels when the speaker layout calls for it.
• 010-03106-00: 4 channels, 500 W total power. A higher-power full-range option for four speakers, with bridged outputs available for different wiring plans.

Installation and setup

Plan a mounting spot that stays dry and has air around it, such as inside the console, behind a helm panel, or in a cabin locker. Even the water-resistant models should not be installed where they will be directly exposed to the elements, submerged, or hit with high-pressure spray, and they should not be mounted in an engine compartment or other high-heat spaces.

Run power and ground to the battery or a properly sized distribution point, and protect the positive lead with an appropriate fuse mounted within 18 in (45 cm) of the battery connection. Use the minimum wire size specified for the model (8 AWG or 4 AWG) and secure all wiring so it cannot chafe on fiberglass edges or work loose from vibration.

After the wiring is complete, set input sensitivity and the filter options for your speakers and subwoofer, then reinstall the gasketed cover over the controls before putting the boat back into service. On IPX7 versions, the rating is based on immersion up to 1 meter (3.28 ft) for up to 30 minutes with the control cover properly installed.

Compatibility and system planning

These amplifiers pair well with marine source units that provide RCA pre-outs. When the source only has speaker outputs, a speaker-wire-to-RCA adaptor can be used and the input-voltage switch can be set to match the higher signal level.

This range fits setups where you are adding cockpit and cabin speakers, building a simple system with a dedicated subwoofer channel, or moving speaker power off the head unit so the system stays clean at cruising volume. Match the channel count and total power to your speaker layout and to whether the subwoofer is being powered from a monoblock or from a dedicated sub channel on a system amplifier.

These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund.
