Overview

The Victron Energy GSM100200400 is a GX LTE 4G-A cellular modem for adding mobile internet to Victron GX monitoring systems in North America. It connects a GX device to the Victron Remote Management portal over 2G, 3G, or 4G networks, giving boat owners and technicians a practical way to keep an eye on onboard power systems when WiFi or marina Ethernet is not available.

This North America model uses LTE bands 2, 4, and 12 and accepts a regular Mini SIM card. It runs from an 8 to 70 VDC supply, so it can be integrated into common 12V, 24V, and 48V DC vessel systems when wired correctly. Power draw is low for always-on monitoring, with about 2.5 W during cellular data transfer and less than 1.0 W in idle mode.

The modem is meant to serve the GX device itself, not to share internet with phones, laptops, or other onboard electronics. For a boat that already uses a Cerbo GX or another GX device for battery, inverter, charger, solar, or tank monitoring, this unit adds a dedicated cellular path back to VRM without turning the installation into a general-purpose marine router.

Key features
  • Cellular modem for Victron GX devices, with support for 2G, 3G, and 4G network technologies.
  • North America version with LTE band support for bands 2, 4, and 12.
  • Works with any GX device running Venus OS v2.60 or newer.
  • Built-in GPS receiver supports VRM tracking and geofencing when the optional active GPS antenna is installed.
  • Dedicated internet connection for the connected GX device, helping keep VRM monitoring separate from crew WiFi needs.
  • Wide 8 to 70 VDC input range for use across many DC power systems on board.
  • Fixed 1.0 m USB-A cable connects the modem to the GX device.
  • SMA connectors are provided for LTE and optional GPS antennas.
  • Compact housing measures 106 x 42.5 x 22 mm and weighs about 0.08 kg.
  • Blue LED status indicator gives a quick local check of modem activity during setup and troubleshooting.
Installation and setup

The GX LTE 4G-A should be mounted where the cellular signal is not blocked by metal structure, large electrical equipment, or enclosed lockers. On many boats, the included indoor LTE antenna is suitable near the nav station, electrical panel, or equipment space. Installations inside a metal enclosure or deep inside the vessel may need an external LTE antenna for better reception.

The unit connects to the GX device through its fixed USB-A cable and is configured from the GX interface. The DC power cable includes an inline fuse holder and terminal block, and the power supply ground should match the GX device ground. This is typically battery negative in a standard DC system.

Compatibility and fit

This modem is a good match for vessels that use Victron GX hardware for system monitoring and need a cellular connection for VRM access while away from dockside internet. It is especially useful for cruising boats, workboats, fishing vessels, and remote moorings where battery state, charging performance, and inverter or charger status need to be checked from shore.

A regular Mini SIM card with an active data plan is required. Some networks may also require APN setup, SIM PIN handling, or roaming settings in the GX device menu. Ethernet and WiFi connections can take priority over cellular on the GX system, so network settings should be checked when the modem is installed alongside other internet connections.

If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
