Overview
The JL Audio M3-650VEX VeX enclosed speaker system is a pair of 6.5 in coaxial speaker pods for open-air sound on boats where you want tower-style speakers without cutting into fiberglass. Each pod presents a 4 ohm load and is rated at 60 W continuous RMS per channel, with a frequency response of 100 Hz to 25 kHz.
The enclosure measures 7.03 in in diameter and 6.16 in in depth, which helps when you are checking clearance on a wake tower, T-top, hardtop overhang, or rail mount. Some versions add integrated RGB LED accent lighting, using a separate 10 to 14.4 V DC lighting feed (not for 24 V systems).
Mounting is handled through the VeX receiver system, so you pair the pod with compatible mounting fixtures (sold separately) and aim the speakers where people actually sit in the cockpit.
Key features
- Enclosed 6.5 in M3 coaxial speaker pods (sold as a pair) for exposed mounting locations
- 4 ohm system impedance and 60 W RMS continuous power handling per channel
- Compact pod size: 7.03 in diameter and 6.16 in depth for easier fit checks on towers and hardtops
- Rotating receiver built into each pod for aiming, used with compatible mounting fixtures (sold separately)
- RGB LED versions use a separate 10 to 14.4 V DC lighting connection and should not be tied into 24 V circuits or navigation light circuits
- Sport grille styling options to match white or darker topsides and hardware themes
Variants
This system is offered in multiple configurations so you can match the grille style and decide whether you want RGB accent lighting.
Across the range, the grille color/style and LED lighting option change. The core speaker format remains the M3 6.5 in enclosed system (7.03 in diameter, 6.16 in depth) with a 4 ohm load and 60 W RMS continuous power handling per channel.
- 010-03256-00: LED lighting: None; Grille color/style: White Sport. This keeps wiring to standard speaker leads and gives a bright look that stands out on white gelcoat and light-colored canvas.
- 010-03257-00: LED lighting: None; Grille color/style: Gray Sport. This keeps wiring to standard speaker leads and suits darker towers, hardtops, and black hardware themes.
- 010-03259-00: LED lighting: RGB LED; Grille color/style: Gray Sport. This adds RGB accent lighting with separate lighting leads, useful when you want cockpit mood lighting at anchor or at the dock.
- 010-03258-00: LED lighting: RGB LED; Grille color/style: White Sport. This adds RGB accent lighting while keeping the white sport grille appearance for boats with lighter finishes.
Installation and wiring
Each pod uses the VeX receiver interface and requires compatible mounting fixtures (sold separately) for tube or surface installs. Plan the mount so the speaker can be aimed at the seating area and so the pod clears bimini frames, antennas, and handholds through its full swivel range.
Audio wiring is straightforward speaker cable to a 4 ohm load. For best results, match the amplifier to the recommended 20 to 120 W RMS per channel range and use marine-grade terminations with heat-shrink where connections live in wet lockers or on exposed towers.
RGB LED versions add lighting connections that need a switched 10 to 14.4 V DC supply and ground (or an RGB controller). A small fuse at each speaker lighting feed is recommended for short-circuit protection, and the lighting circuit should stay separate from navigation lighting circuits.
Compatibility and fit
These pods make sense when you want sound directed into an open cockpit, aft lounge, or transom area, especially on boats used for water sports. With the 7.03 in diameter and 6.16 in depth, confirm you have room for both the pod and the mounting fixture hardware before ordering clamps.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt residue off the grilles after runs and avoid harsh solvents on the finish. Recheck mounting fasteners and cable strain relief periodically so the pods stay quiet and properly aimed when the boat is pounding or trailering.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
