Overview
The Blue Sea Systems 15A Push Button Backlit Switch is a backlit marine control switch for 12V DC panels, available with either maintained OFF-ON action or momentary OFF-(ON) action. The button glows blue when the circuit is off and red when it is on, making the switch status easy to read at the helm, in a cabin panel, or on an accessory control panel after dark.
This switch is rated for 15A at 12V DC, with a maximum voltage of 15V DC and a maximum LED operating current of 20mA. It fits a 7/8 inch mounting hole, works with panels up to 0.24 inch thick, and uses a 3 inch bare wire pigtail for connection. The operating temperature range is -20°C to 55°C, which suits exposed and semi-protected marine installations where heat, cold, vibration, and spray are part of normal use.
With an IP67 rating, a 316 stainless steel body, a gasket sealed panel, and a molded rear cover, this switch is a practical match for boats that need clean controls without giving up panel visibility or washdown resistance.
Key features
- 15A rating at 12V DC for common boat accessory circuits and control-panel switching.
- Backlit button changes from blue when off to red when on, helping confirm circuit status in low light.
- Fits a 7/8 inch cutout and mounts through panels up to 0.24 inch thick.
- IP67-rated construction with a gasket sealed panel for protection in wet marine locations.
- 316 stainless steel body gives the exposed face better resistance in saltwater environments.
- Rated for 10,000 switching cycles for repeated use at the helm, cockpit, cabin, or equipment panel.
- 3 inch bare wire pigtail termination keeps wiring straightforward during panel builds and replacements.
Variants
This backlit push button switch is offered in two action configurations, both with the same 15A at 12V DC electrical rating and the same blue-off/red-on backlighting.
The difference is how the switch behaves when pressed. One version stays in the selected state, while the other is momentary and returns when released.
- 4181: Action OFF-(ON). This momentary version is suited to functions that should only run while the button is being pressed, such as horns, starters, or other short-duration control circuits.
- 4180: Action OFF-ON. This maintained version is suited to circuits that need to remain on until the switch is pressed again, such as lights, pumps, or accessory loads controlled from a panel.
Installation and setup
The 7/8 inch mounting hole makes this switch useful for custom panels and replacement work where a clean round-button layout is preferred. The maximum panel thickness of 0.24 inch should be checked before installation, especially on thicker dash panels, acrylic panels, or refit panels with overlays.
The switch uses black and blue 18 AWG wires and red and orange 16 AWG wires. Match the selected variant to the circuit behavior before wiring, since the maintained OFF-ON version and the momentary OFF-(ON) version serve different control jobs.
Use cases on board
The included icon labels cover common boat circuits such as accessory loads, lights, anchor light, running light, and bilge pump. This makes the switch easy to integrate into a helm or distribution panel where operators need quick visual identification and a clear on/off status.
The momentary version fits short-action controls, while the maintained version fits circuits that need to stay energized during use. For boats with multiple accessory switches, the matching format helps keep the panel consistent from one control to the next.
What’s included
- Backlit push button switch

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
