Overview
The Blue Sea Systems Straight Terminal CableCap is a PVC insulating cover for battery terminals with standard automotive posts. It helps protect exposed straight terminal connections in marine battery compartments, lockers, and other DC electrical areas where accidental contact with a live terminal can create a short-circuit risk.
This CableCap range is offered in small and large versions to match different cable sizes. The small version covers cable sizes 1, 2, and 4, while the large version covers 1/0 and 2/0 cable. Both versions are listed in black and red, making them practical for positive and negative battery terminal identification in a boat’s DC system.
Key features
- Fits battery terminals with standard automotive posts, commonly used on marine starting and house batteries.
- PVC construction adds an insulating barrier over exposed straight terminal connections.
- Small and large versions cover cable sizes from 4 through 2/0, depending on the selected variant.
- Black and red color options support clearer polarity identification at the battery bank.
- Slip-on form helps keep installation simple when covering straight battery terminal connections.
Variants
This product is offered in two configurations, with the main difference being the terminal cap size and the cable sizes each version is intended to cover.
The material, straight terminal style, and use on standard automotive battery posts are consistent across the range.
- 4016: Type Small. This version is sized for smaller straight battery terminal cable connections and covers cable sizes 1, 2, and 4.
- 4017: Type Large. This version is sized for larger straight battery terminal cable connections and covers cable sizes 1/0 and 2/0.
Installation and use
The cap slips over the terminal connection after the battery cable has been installed and tightened. On a boat, this is useful around battery banks, engine starting batteries, and accessory power circuits where terminals may be close to tools, lockers, metal hardware, or other conductive surfaces.
Before fitting the cap, confirm that the cable size and terminal style match the selected variant. The connection should be clean, properly tightened, and routed so the cap can sit fully over the exposed terminal without being forced or stretched.
Fit and system notes
This is a terminal insulation part, not an electrical conductor or fuse. It does not change the rating of the battery cable, terminal, or circuit protection. It is best matched with straight battery terminal connections using standard automotive posts and used as part of a clean DC installation with proper cable routing and overcurrent protection.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
