Overview
The Blue Sea Systems 8413 is a traditional metal AC/DC panel that combines switching, circuit protection, and vessel monitoring in one assembly. It is built for 120V AC systems and 12V or 24V DC systems, with 8 AC positions plus a main and 14 DC positions plus a main. The M2 Vessel Systems Monitor brings AC, DC, tank, and bilge information into one OLED display and can share that data over NMEA 2000.
This panel makes sense when you want to replace an older traditional panel or pull AC and DC distribution into one location without giving up clear monitoring. The standard layout comes with five 15A AC branch breakers, eight 15A DC branch breakers, a 30A AC main breaker, and a 100A DC main breaker. The panel itself measures 15.77 in x 9.25 in x 3 in, so it is worth checking both face cutout and rear clearance before ordering for a refit.
The face uses white toggle breakers that blend in with older Blue Sea Systems style installations, while the panel body is 0.125 in 5052-H32 aluminum alloy with a graphite textured polyurethane finish. For boats that see regular night use, the ON indicators and backlit label areas make it easier to confirm what is live at a glance.

Electrical and system integration
The built-in monitor is useful on boats that want more than basic breaker control. It can watch three separate voltage sources, which is commonly used for multiple battery banks, and it ties into a NMEA 2000 network for system visibility beyond the panel itself. Current measurement depends on installing the monitor shunt in the negative line, so this panel is a better fit for a planned electrical refit than for a quick cosmetic swap.
On the AC side, the reverse-polarity light adds a simple but important check when the boat is plugged into shore power. On the DC side, the panel is rated around a busbar maximum of 100A, so branch planning and feed protection still need to match the real load profile of the boat.
Installation and setup
This panel should be mounted where both the front and back stay protected from water, or behind a waterproof shield if that exposure cannot be avoided. It is not ignition protected, so it does not belong in spaces where gasoline vapors, propane, or battery gas can collect. That matters on many powerboats where the nearest open bulkhead may also be near an engine room or battery compartment.
If it will serve as the main shore power disconnect, it needs to be installed within 10 feet of the shore power inlet, measured along the conductors. That makes it a straightforward fit at a nav station, cabin bulkhead, or service panel location on cruising boats where AC shore input and DC house distribution are already routed to the same area.
Compatibility and fit
This panel is a good match for boats running 120V AC shore power with a 12V or 24V DC house system, especially when the owner wants breaker control and system monitoring in one place. It also works well in refits where a traditional look matters, since the white toggle style lines up visually with older panel layouts instead of looking out of place in an existing interior.
Because it combines AC, DC, tank, and bilge monitoring, it suits cruising sailboats, trawlers, and powerboats with more than a very basic electrical setup. On simpler boats that only need a few DC loads, this panel would be more capacity and monitoring than the installation really needs.
